I do exactly what hendie does too Ced, so yes h it does make sense!

Shame you hang them from the ceiling Ced, stuck to a base no-one would ever see any wobbliness...!!

Keith

Thanks Keith - yes, I have to take of my bottoms - no wobbliness for me! :wicked:

Thanks Jont - glad the camping went well :)

Thin tape masking and dotty touch ups done:

There's some build up that will need Micromeshing and I still have touch ups to do on the main colours.

I've glued in the aerials ready for this and I've cut the rear-view mirrors off the sprue, then realised I can't glue them on until the canopy mask is off

Stuck to some tape in the 'little bits' box.

Sorry Tony :D That's made me think I should really get some new glasses too…

No modelling yesterday, family here.

This morning I, guiltily, decided I needed to do something about the small faults in the seams that you've all been too kind to mention:

48461666526_a9afbee859_z.jpg

Better let that dry before touch ups.

All this waiting has prompted me to choose my next build.

I did have a Blackbird waiting in the wings for the Specialist GB (missed it) or the Lockheed GB (missed it) and there have been a few on here recently so I decided to return it to the stash and choose something else.

It's strange for me when I do this. I think it's mostly influenced by others' recent builds. Especially the good ones…

Barracuda? Nope, I still remember TheBaron's excellent build so I have to forget that before I bash the kit myself.

Ah, the Fly Whitley. I've been waiting to build that until people have forgotten that Airfix have brought out a new tool that is, no doubt, much better. It looks like a nice kit though; resin, PE, nice canopy molding and I even have a set of masks that I bought before the cutter arrived.

That one then. I'll post a link later.

Why am I not following this? How did I miss it? What happened to me? :frantic:  :frantic:  :frantic:  And it's almost done! And you're already talking of what's next! Aaaargh! :wall:  And there's no room left, not even at the bar ... 😭

OK, I'll tag along anyway to watch this coming to its end :D  :D

Ciao

Don't worry Giorgio, I'm hiding in a GB… still plenty of scope for errors!

Touch ups done (fnaar!) so what's next?

Gloss it you say?

Need a smooth surface for the transfers?

Colourcoats is really smooth…

Oh, alright then, gloss coat it is - now I'll have to wait for THAT to dry…

Thanks Giorgio and Keith :)

I've learned a lot from this site as you know - and I've even remembered some of it…

Something else I remembered was the stand that my daughter gave me some time ago. I reckoned then that the Sphere-stand pins would go in the end and they do:

48470594647_bd665bcf4f_z.jpg

Very handy - bendy arm so you can position the model for transfers on one side:

48470647062_30f8abe272_z.jpg

… then turn it around for the other side. Repositioning over the scheme diagram for the top:

48470718317_a5a83b97d4_z.jpg

… and then just flip the model over for the bottom (oooer missus):

48470722682_3d6ab5c380_z.jpg

First one done in no time - with the wooden stand I normally use, I had to wait for the transfers to dry to avoid knocking them about. No problem with this!

Once the main transfers were on I disciplined myself (mentally) and picked up the, gnnnuuuughhhh, stencil sheet:

See anything wrong?

I'll give you a hint.

What are the worst stencils to apply?

Walkway strips.

Look at the diagram; use either 12?13 for the front stripe.

Sounds OK but they were painted over with the stripes.

AND the scheme shows them going over the roundels - NEVER said Edgar (RIP).

Tricky.

With my usual air of manjana I decided to delay the pain and go onto the second model:

48470807892_9b336087e4_z.jpg

Love it! Just imagine the scene…

D-Day approaches and the order goes out to hastily apply the stripes.

Ground crew frantically apply the stripes and stand back to admire their work.

Out come the pilots…

"I say old chap, which one is mine?"

"Sorry Sir, won't take a minute to fix that…"

The transfers performed beautifully with Micro-whatever-the-name-of-the-first-one-is and are already settling well without stronger stuff:

48470692571_ba4ae0ccf0_z.jpg

Two done, waiting for stencils:

48470699101_1caee9ab74_z.jpg

By the way, getting the 'painted over' K positioned was tricky.

Remember I said I needed to Micromesh some build up?

Well I forgot

Thanks Giorgio and Simon - nearly there :)

John the stand is from an obscure audiology digital microscope my daughter uses - they come with a stand and they're never used apparently. I'm not sure if this one would work with 1/48 but other 'Gooseneck stands' are available. HTH :)

Looking good Ced B)

For what it's worth, and if it's not already too late, I don't think the walkway markings* would have been repainted over the invasion stripes either, as the stripes were only intended to be temporary anyway...

Cheers,

Stew

Thanks Stew - not too late at all and appreciated :)

I'm having to force myself to do these basted stencils but I will persevere.

Props done:

48480753807_9835e706cd_z.jpg

You know that even Eduard know that this is a pain by the number of extra transfers they give you; two extra red circles and LOTS of little white lines - one sheet was enough to do both.

The walkways are done and the upper wing, non-covered stencils.

Here's a tip; remember to do the yellow LE stripes before you apply the gun covers. I didn't

Out with the Liquidex pen:

48480649502_922d99011e_z.jpg

That's getting much easier to use as there's a little slot worn into the tip now so I can just run it along the LE a couple of times.

Only one kit had the covers on so I'll use Stew's Rizla trick to cover those.

When I have some more mojo…

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio :)

I'm torn between two of my least favourite tasks at the moment; these stencils and the Whitley turret - must discipline myself!

This morning I completed the 'I can read that' stencils on the narrow stripe one and the Stew-inspired Rizla paper was taken out:

48494753537_33e9846ebb_z.jpg

… and the gun covers replaced with some Gator's thin:

48494861202_fa9e8c39f3_z.jpg

They'll need a trim when the glue's dry.
