Some very tedious taping was required.

Had the paint pull off in this one area.  Going to have to repaint this section.

Obviously there will be a fair amount of touch up work.  Had a fair amount of bleedthrough even though I used the flexible Tamiya white tape.  Should be able to rectify with brushes and weathering I would think.  Maybe scrape some away with a toothpick.

I was extremely nervous pulling up all the masking for this but I think it still turned out ok for the first time.  The differences in stripe width can be seen if you look but my gf states the chances of those things getting painted on perfect during the days before the invasion was highly unlikely.

I must say the model master 50 cal barrels do look nice vs the kit supplied ones.

Taking a break this weekend and going to Vancouver to check out some hobby shops.  Then ill tackle the refinishing of the stripes and most likely put down the exhausts.

Did my first airbrushing of the exhaust stains.  Tried to not overdo it, hope it looks ok.  Used three different shades to get it acceptable in my eyes.

Added the deets and waiting to dry and put on some decals.

Almost done, not sure how to weather it all with the stripes.

Liking the invasion stripes - almost seems a shame to weather them at all! 👍

Ditto what the big furry fella above says - a really nice paint job.

Did some nato black for the walkways, I almost forgot and was just about to start laying decals down.

Just need to redo the exhaust and then hopefully get the decals applied by this weekend.

Worked on some stencilling.

Does anyone have an idea if they would have simply painted over previous stencils and left them or as a navy ship had the time to redo them over the invasion stripes?

I think I would weather down the TSS but not weather the Stripes as much.  I assume the RN would only have painted the stripes at the last moment as HMS Emperor headed to the Western approaches..

Thats a good call, just dont want the starkness of the white to stand out too much.  The guys over at On The Bench said to use a clear coat with a couple drops of the darkest colour as a filter to blend it all in.  Somewhat tempted but I usually use rattle can tamiya flat clear as Im scared senseless of anything else.

Eduards decals don’t match the indications on their placement sheet so really had to scramble before the decals dried too much.  Think I did an alright job.

Did some more work on the exhaust and walkways.  Want a redo but I think once I weather and add washes next it will blend together nicely.

Looks very elegant Beazer, can we hope to see this in the gallery soon?

Hopefully.  Was thinking about laying down the gloss coat today and then theres not much left after that.

And the prop decided to wrinkle for some reason.  The last thing I had left to clear coat.  Quite ticked off atm.

It looks good otherwise, installing lights tomorrow and gonna figure out how to fix the prop.

Finished her off and after seeing it completed she sure does look dangerous.

Had it’s fair share of hiccups but that I think was mostly me being impatient.

Those FAA colours look so good, and even though stripes were not my most favourite thing to do boy do they stand out and I’m happy that I didn’t weather them too much.

Hopefully theP-40 build I have will be simpler but with the kingfishers and the WIFs in the wings I feel I’ve got so much work on the horizon ahead of me.
