neilg
I've just finished this kit, for a friend who is a glider pilot. I've followed all of the instructions, and made no modifications. The instructions clearly show the engine supports fit into the rear of the engine bay. There is one support for the left and right, which means that it is not possible to close the main engine doors with the engine in the extended position. What I've ended up with is this: This resembles the ASH-25 with an engine - the doors are always open. However, the box artwork (and images on the Schempp-Hirth website) show the main engine doors closed when the engine is extended, and that there are no struts in the position that the instructions show: I wish I had studied these images in more detail before I started to build, but I was wondering if anyone has made any modifications to be more realistic?
upnorth
Most models I've seen built from that kit have had the engine doors closed. Some modelers I've spoken to who know the aircraft well say it's best to leave the engine out completely as it's somewhat overscale.
