1/72 AZ Model Messerschmitt Bf-109 G10 Erla "JG 301"

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

this is my latest Bf-109, the Erla production G10, released by AZ Models in spring this year.

This version has never been available as an injection-molded kit in 72 scale before.

The main characteristics of the Erla-production 109s (compared to those built at WNF or Regensburg plant) consist of differently shaped gun throughs, a wider oil cooler, missing chin bulges and different rudder.

I diverted from AZ's paint instructions by using RLM81/82 instead of 83/75.

The fuselage number is provided in Green, while in my opinion, it should be Blue instead.

I cut a mask using the decal sheet as a template and sprayed the Blue "2".

Details were enhanced using Brengun photo etch, Master pitot tube, and Rob Taurus vacu.

All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel.

Hi My Friend Roman!!!

Congratulations for this great build My Friend !!! Here you were in your sauce too!!!

Think personally that seem you have picked the bread right out from the oven and still hot enjoyed it, you didn’t waited to be cold and hard…just have gotten a great meal right out from the kitchen preps… Is nice to enjoy a really great kit and obviously a one that was highly expected as this one!!!... Think that right in the same moment when you heard the kit will be produced and launched into the market, you started to “study” the lessons and do your homework to get the kit right the same day you got it, left aside the current builds and defined the right route to success with this one.

Many of us do the same BUT the difference between you and all the others (especially as me), is that you finish the builds… Like a huge lot the “class of Luftwaffe 109 Builds” you have made here,  you have studied all the recent news that appeared recently surrounding this variant and did a great masterwork in a nice job, combined the colors very well and the weathering effect is great. For sure, we will expect many more of the same kit soon, so Keep on my friend and go ahead!!!

Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Cheers,

Luis Alfonso

Beautiful work as always Roman. I have one in the stash and although I haven't built any 1/72 scale for a while I'm hoping to get around to it soon. Are there any areas of the build that we have to look out for?

Duncan, thanks for your feedback.

You may consider scraping off the interior detail on the fuselage walls where the instrument panel is about to fit.

This part is slightly oversized and may cause problems when closing the fuselage.

To illustrate this issue, I took a snapshot of my work with the motor tool:

Hope this info is useful!

Best greetings, Roman

Another nice one Roman, and thank you for the tip with the interior.

Can you tell what paint you used, as I really like how the colours turned out?

Thank you for kind feedback Pedro.

The colors on the topside are:

Gunze H421 Brown Violet (RLM81) with a drop of Gunze H406 Chocolate Brown added;

I personally find Gunze's interpretation of RLM81 a bit too pale and green-ish.

Gunze H422 Light Green (RLM 82)

Underside:

Gunze H417 Light Blue (RLM76)

Metal areas: Tamyia TS-17 Aluminum

All colors have been applied over a pre-shaded surface;

I add a drop of White (Gunze H11) to darker colors for scale effect and lighten up the center of the panels in a 'cloudy' application.

Hope this info is useful,

with best greetings from Vienna

Roman
