72modeler
Wow- I beat Dennis @Corsairfoxfouruncle to a seat at the bar for this one! If you haven't decided upon a scheme and markings, might I suggest you consider one of the Camels assigned to the battle ship USS Texas? Lots of photos of the example preserved at the US Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola, See the attached links for photos. I have the same kit, so will be watching this build with interest! Can't wait to see the RFI photos! StephenCJ
There will be a USS Texas Ships Camel in my little collection, but not this time around. Thanks for the info Mike. Food is more important than models except if my mother cooked it. Edited June 19, 2019 by StephenCJ 1

StephenCJ
I had forgotten that I had started a WIP with this one. A pic of the progress so far. Thanks for looking. Stephen
Marklo
Nice work so far. I do have a Camel in the works. Those Texas schemes are really nice I wonder what’s different between a regular camel and a ships one. Must do a bit of research. Marklo
Hmm as far as I can tell the ships Camel differed by having a narrower wingspan (11”, 5mm in 1/48) slightly taller struts (~3mm) a single Vickers and a Lewis gun. i wonder if that extra top wing i got in my Revel Camel is for a ships camel hmm. Even better, I don’t think the Uss Texas Camel is a Ships Camel it has twin Vickers so it’s more likely an F1 not a 2F1, so I don’t have to modify my Camel at all. 72modeler
Here is a link to a website that has descriptions, histories, and detail photos of Camels and Ships Camels, including the Camel F1 that is at the NMNA at Pensacola painted in one of the schemes Camels assigned to BB35, USS Texas were finished. I have seen it in person, and it is beautiful! Hope many of you find the site of interest. When you get a suitable kit, here's a link to some excellent detail photos of the replica in USS Texas colors and markings which should be helpful, John. Photos via Detail & Scale. Not my scale, but if WNW did a suitable Camel, that would be pretty impressive in these markings! I am True Scale Fellow...😉 I already have some excellent images of the markings, provided via the three links above. What I need are the proper USN post-WW1 letters and numbers for the build. Marklo
Great link. I’m happy to model the museum F1 which is in the scheme of the F2s. Will be a lovely contrast to my other Sopwiths which are all various shades of PC10.
2996 Victor
Hi @StephenCJ, just wondering if you finished this little project? Among the too many projects I have in mind, and thanks to @John Masters' current Triplane build in the French Fancy 2 GB I'm inspired to build some WW1 subjects in the Gentleman's Scale. So I was wondering what your opinion of the Roden Camel might be? I've heard it's accurate but can be a bit fiddly. What would you say? Cheers, Mark
