almac
Evening all I am currently working on the aforementioned kit and I have a question regarding colour. What I am asking about is a triangular shape directly behind the pilot's seat on the fuselage. This picture shows what I am referring to. Does anyone know what this represents and what colour should it be? Cheers Allan
Tailspin Turtle
It was a "canvas" covering of the sliding canopy actuator. Any shade of canvas will do.

Dads203
I thought it was the cover for the Yankee ejection seat rocket motor, the sky raider had a unique rocket motor that wasn’t fitted to the seat bottom but was behind the pilot seat heat rest. It’s an olive green in colour and I think it’s nylon. Some were were not fitted, possibly the early versions though.

The AF versions with the seat extractor system probably did have a cover over the mechanism. See the link to details of the system, which might have had the cover removed to reveal the workings for the photographs. I have also attached a link to a video showing the system in operation. Tailspin Turtle
The Yankee system was only incorporated on the single-seat Skyraider of two Navy squadrons shortly before their withdrawal from combat operations. It was installed to the right of the existing sliding canopy mechanism and not covered by its boot. RidgeRunner
All this presumes you are building a US machine. If not, then you need to build the apparatus under the canvas, which wasn't fitted.
