Viscount 800 conversion, Dart 510 and Yellow Sun

Recommended Posts

Three new items are being produced:

1 - Viscount 800 conversion set for the Mach 2 Viscount 700 kit. This consists of the fuselage plug, four Dart engines with the characteristic bulged cowlings and four transparent windows for the forward saloon, plus an additional two transparent rear windows in the main cabin.

2 - Dart 510 and later engines with bulged cowlings to permit an accurate Viscount 700D to be modelled.

3 - At the request of a friend we have produced a 1:72 Yellow Sun nuclear weapon to go with the Airfix Valiant.

I forgot to ask. Any possible plans for some decals for the 800 series Viscounts to complement (the rather excellent conversion recently purchased) conversion set. British Air Ferries spring to mind.

Best regards;

Steve

Yes, the first six decal sets are already available from Hannants. They are (with links to Hannants site):

British European Airways (BEA) Vickers Viscount 701 - Delivery scheme - circa 1953 - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL72070

British European Airways (BEA) Vickers Viscount 802 - Delivery scheme - circa 1957 - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL72071

British European Airways (BEA) Vickers Viscount 701 - Red Square scheme - circa 1960 - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL72072

British European Airways (BEA) Vickers Viscount 802 - Red Square scheme - circa 1960 - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL72073

Cambrian Airways Vickers Viscount 806 - Circa 1972 - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL72074

Northeast Airlines (UK) Vickers Viscount 806 - Circa 1972 - https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL72075

I agree that BAF would be a good choice, plus I plan on doing Central African Airways, Air Rhodesia and South African Airways when time permits.

Other suggestions are always welcome.

I normally try to cover all the airlines which bought the type from new, but this is difficult with the Viscount because so many airlines bought them.

Many thanks for the comprehensive reply. I certainly like the idea of a red square BEA Viscount, but being a Southend lad, British Air Ferries would be fab. I'll keep my fingers firmly crossed.

I reckon I had better buy another 800 conversion then!

Best regards;

Steve

There were three BAF colour schemes:

1 - Similar to the American Eastern Airlines 'hockey stick'.

2 - White upper half of fuselage and dark blue lower half with diagonal black-yellow-black stripes across the white fuselage and fin.

3 - Red, white and blue colours with red and blue pinstripes on the edge of the dark blue lower fuselage and sweeping up the fin & rudder.

Which is the preferred livery for a decal sheet ?

Hi Neil;

Personally, I like either the one with the Black-yellow-black stripes or the red white and blue schemes. The 80/90s red white and blue is certainly the classy looking of the three, but the black-yellow-black "bumble bee" scheme is probably considered the classic BAF look. I seem to remember that the re-paints between these schemes occurred in 1983.

Best regards;

Steve
