LorenSharp
I'm not sure if I will use the vac for the turrets as I added exterior bumps to the sides that will make it more difficult to extract fro the plastic. But I took some scrap resin and carved down the center part of the turret added some more bits then attached the brass 20mm cannon I got from evilbay. Painted up we have this. LorenSharp
Somewhere along the line I did manage to touch up the the nose bay and replaced the solid center brace with a reinforced girder support and the crew access ladder.
tomprobert
This is looking like a mammoth build - I can’t justify spending £600+ on a kit but if someone was to release a vacform instead I’d be all over it. Really enjoying seeing this come together.
LorenSharp
If I was content to leave well enough alone and stop adding "extras" Tom It probably would be wouldn't take that long. But I can't help but stuff extra bits and bobs here and there. My biggest rub on this Kit and the XB-70 was inaccuracies that really shouldn't have made it to the final product. The interior is a mishmash of the "B" and the "H" and the featherweights for good measure and some things eliminated that shouldn't have. I wouldn't have caught a lot of these had I not made so many improvements. This from a company that prides it'self on museum quality pieces. I understand the economics of production and sometimes you have to make compromises but I do scratch my head at times. I got it because it was the only game in town until Gerald comes up with his, and that may be years in the future,if at all. BUt still wouldn't trade this build for the world, it make me stretch my build capacity to the limit. I will agree though this was the limit of what I'll pay for a kit. The"H" BUFF they are to release I'll take a pass on. At almost $1000, thats to rich for my blood.

LorenSharp
Fowarding on,,, Did manage to get a few things tended to this week. Masking the Upper canopy and the nose piece. then a coating of gloss black primer followed by the aluminium topcoat. once the topcoat dries I can peel off the masking.
LorenSharp
Spent a long time placing all the P/E bits on the fuselage Talk about fiddly bit. But that is nothing compared to...
LorenSharp
Doing the metal finish. Once the black base coat had set and cured for a day or so I sprayed a coating of Alclad Semi Matte Aluminium Let it dry a day then used a 8000 grit polishing pad to smooth the finish out. Then applied the bare metal foil to to pressurised cockpit area. Applied it panel by panel changing the direction of the foil grain to give some variation. Still have to complete the tail end, as far as foil goes.
LorenSharp
Also used a piece of fine steel wool to modify the grain of the metal.

Loren, Nice work thus far! I was thinking that you might want to copy those turrets for the sure to be released HPH 1/48 Death Star! Of course when you build that you will need your own country to convert to a work space but your almost there anyway!
LorenSharp
THank you Nachtwulf. One thing is for sure, following along watching this build you know where to avoid the traps as I find them.
LorenSharp
While taking a short pause metalizing the fuselage, I added wipers, which surprisingly weren't in the kit, a lot of obscure things but not those. I stuffed a little bit of detail into the cockpit glass. The jet thrust controls I added the levers, the cables coming off the box and a portion of the insulation And lastly the forward gunsight apparatus.

LorenSharp
Messenger from the Front! What seem like an Eternity of Postage stamp sized bits of foil like posty notes First part of the metalizing project is complete. Still have to apply the anti-flash white to the bottom, but it's starting to look like a Magnesium Overcast. Leaning waaaay back to get the whole bleedin thing in the shot And for grins I temp attached the canopy and Bombardiers glass nose to get an idea how well it looks compared to the foil Let things set for a day or so before I paint the bottom. Meanwhile I'll continue attempting to cut the Counter weights in half. I almost have one cut completely in half. At this rate I don't know if the troops will be home for Christmas.
