Lifeline
Hi, I'm coming in with another one... Yes, I think I got the GB bug on me. This was actually my first plan for the Specialist GB, but the Tiger PAH-2 beat it to it. I brought this kit and a Hasegawa 1/72 CF-104 with me for my hitch in an offshore rig off the coast of east java. And I thought might as well sign up for the GBs here in BM. My plan is to build it as P-61A-5 NO, with "The Virgin Widow" nose art using the Kits-World Decal The night before I packed it, I sprayed some Mr.Color Green Zinc and Tamiya Yellow Green on the cockpit area and wheel well... Why? because it could be a bit hassle to paint in my cabin or my office. I didn't have the mood to start the build the first week here. But when I finally have the mood, I realize all the seats are wrong.. So I modified it a bit to at least look better under the canopy. cut, plastic stripes, and few bended wires later.... yes it not much, crude, and going to need filling and sanding.. but finger crossed it will look better than the original Cheers, Mario
trickyrich
welcome again Mario with your second build, the P-61 does have to be one of my fav aircraft types! So you take your builds Off-shore with you, nice! Unfortunately my not so often Off-shore trips (Timor sea off the WA coast) don't allow me to take builds, just buy stuff online! Good luck with her, i've built this model and it's a really nice build.
Col.
Nice work on the seats Mario. You've made a big difference to what the kit provides

But I always able to bring 1 or 2 kits along with several paints (acrylic) mostly and other supplies. Also a small compressor and airbrush pen too.. but sometimes it's the mood to build that I'm lacking.. As for the the widow... I was able to add some ribbing on the radar operator office.[/url] And the whole interior parts painted, clear coated, washed with tamiya panel liners, and also add some chipping with Mr.Hobby silver on tiny sponge. I also add seatbelts using tamiya tapes and thin wire. The results looks quite ok.... Right? Radar parts built OOB, but I add some fishing ballast as weight just behind the fire wall and radar platform. Also add simple wiring on the MLG The kit doesn't provide the dorsal turret... While the Virgin Widow I'm building has it.. so I recast one using the parts from P-61B kit.. Still coarse and need some sanding/filling, and I have to make the barrel (will be shaped very generic...but so does the ones from the P-61B kit anyway)... Lifeline
Well... Not much happening the past 3 weeks... All the major part had came together. Some alignment problems and fittings, but fixed (as good as I can afford without losing the mood) Masked, and painted black With several shades of silver in between black for effects Fine results... Hard to see it on photos though These were followed with a coat of clear, and a couple of day latter..decals I use the kits-world decals and they are just great! Unfortunately since they only provide the nose art decals and the tail numbers, I have to fight with the old decal I got from the kit. Fortunately a good friend of mine just gave me microscale's decal film liquid (nobody sell those here in Indonesia), which surprise me with their ability to fix old decal such these.. I ended up using all the basic decals, except several parts of it which had broken beyond my ability to repair... Afterwards I play with silver paints, blacks, brown, a bit of light gull grey and used sponge to do the heavy chipping pacific black widow are famous for, and the exhaust stains... Here's the latest condition of the widow; I'm hoping I could finish her before the deadline... Cheers, Mario

Will follow up with gallery posting tomorrow... Cheers, Marion
trickyrich
WOW! Well done she looks fantastic! You've managed to get a really nice a weathered look to her, these paint jobs didn't handle the tropical conditions at all and faded and wore off very noticeably over time. The Blackwidow is one of my fav aircraft and you've done a great job on her. I hope you enjoyed the GB, am glad you were able to join us.
