Fairmile B ML196 Landing Craft Control

Recommended Posts

And without prior planning, it is fitting that this build has finally finished to be presented in the week of the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

ML196's role being to guide Landing craft along narrow mine-cleared corridors.

I dedicate it to all those lost during Operation Overlord and Operation Neptune.

A truly inspiring piece of scratch building at its finest

I am in awe of your abilities :mike:

All we need to do now is find a D-Day Museum to display it in

It's been a pleasure for us to follow

Superb!

I've been looking in on your build thread and have learnt so much.

Have you spliced the eye in that rope on the quarterdeck?

To my eye it looks like the Oerlikon safety rails are too tall. Can the barrels actually touch them?

Tom - definitely not spliced (I have difficulty doing that on a full sized rope:blush:).

Its just super-glued together and gently clamped.

The height of the safety rails is as per Lambert (replicated by Mark Smith in his Coastal craft histories)

The barrels would just about touch (ish)

Absolutely superb Rob! A really great build thread that was a lesson in superb maritime scratch building. It has turned out to be one of the best builds of its kind I have seen. I've learnt much from the WIP and continue to apply these lessons to my much more modest build/rebuild of the Airfix Vosper, which is still bubbling away in the background. I hope to see this fine model in the flesh one day!

An inspirational build, well done indeed.
