1/48 Heller Mirage IVA

Recommended Posts

So, my next build is going to be this little beauty, Heller’s 1/48 Mirage IVP.
I’m intending to build mine to represent the Mirage IVA, that’s displayed at the Yorkshire Air Museum.
Aftermarket items are:-
3 decal sets, 1 Up North, and 2 Syhart (and yes, one is a 1/72 set, but there is a reason for this)
AML resin exhausts
NeOmega resin cockpit set
ResKit resin wheels
Master Models refuelling probe
Up North scribing set

I’ll take a seat!

I always loved this airframe, since I saw the 1/72 Heller kit in a toy store back in 90s. Never built it, but the shapes of the «IV» looks magnificent to me.

Good luck with this build, Ian! 🤝

Detailed the undercarriage legs with lead wire, and made a start on the re-scribing.

I did one yars ago as a commission, frustrating job since the customer wanted it bare OOB !!

Then I found one for me and stiil the lady is waiting in the attic !!

I'll start searching for resin wheels too !! It look great !

Sooooo  Let's the game start !!

Sincerely.

Definitely got my attention.  I once overnighted at Bordeaux-Merignac with a couple of Seakings (en route to or from Ark in the Med; can’t remember which), and we were looked after by a Mirage IV Squadron.  Not a small aircraft, to put it mildly, but it has / had a real elegance.  It’s a real coup for YAM to have got hold of one.

Only the French would have a single (albeit enormous) airfield with a Dassault factory, civilian airport and nuclear attack squadron using the same real estate.  Bonkers.

:analintruder: Ian, this is quite a breakthrough for me! Are there any sets devised for other 1/48 aircraft kits?

Cheers,

Hi Unc

Without doing a thorough search, I don’t know tbh.

I came across this set, whilst search for decal sets.

Model Design Construction are the company I bought it from. £10 I think.

It would be great to think if other companies did do these sorts of sets (Eduard, you reading this) :)

How's the Upnorth scribing set working out? Is it making the task a lot easier?

Hi

Yes, definitely a worthwhile investment.

Once I’ve finished with mine, I’ll keep it for any future scribing/re-scribing of access panels on other subjects.

Unc,

Up North did one other scribing template set which was for the Monogram 1/48 F-100D Super Sabre. FWIW they also did a very nice RATO set for the 1/48 Mirage IV, too.

Pulling up a chair for this one, love Mirages and has been said before, the IV is an elegant aircraft.

I saw a couple of these at Sauvigny-lès-Beaune a couple of years ago, unfortunately they're out in the open and have suffered accordingly.

As for the Up-North set, I believe they only ever did the two etched scribing guides and that was some years ago, I wasn't aware of the RATO bottles for this kit though.

Ian, you might want to consider adding some additional tabs to support the spine, it's a long joint that may crack open otherwise.

Good luck with the project!
