Looks like a plan Stix.  Looks pretty close in there, do you need to worry about cooling?

Hi Robert. No I don't think so. I've used these Airfix motors in a few of my aircraft builds and I have never, so far, had any problems. To be fair I don't have them running for long - probably a minute or two at most - when I'm carrying out any testing or taking photos.

Good job on sorting out those gaps Stix they look much better now.

As Robert says above I wonder if the heat of the motor will be an issue when it is running, perhaps drilling the exhausts all the way through will add to the cooling, a bit like the real thing!

Thank you Craig. As I said to Robert, above, I'm not overly concerned............probably this time the plastic will end up melting around it!! We'll see........

I didn't get this was going to have a spinning propeller at first, Stix! :speak_cool:

Ciao

Oh yes, Giorgio!! Decided a while back on this plan - now have to see if I can get it to work!

No update on the Typhoon I'm afraid - not had chance to do anything on that - I have been concentrating on building the Tiger 1 because the Tiger STGB finishes earlier - in mid-August. So a few pictures of where I'm at with the Tiger 1 here:

Very nice indeed Stix.

I really like the damage caused by weapons fire, it really does look very realistic.

Hi Craig and thank you. I was reasonably happy with how the damage came out. I looked at quite a few photos of actual weapons damaged Tigers (with Zimmerit) to try and see how it looked. There is quite a range of different appearances and it was quite tricky trying to work out how to get the effects. They were mostly done with a fine ended screwdriver, various micro-drill bits and a range of mini-file ends.

Great looking Tiger Stix. Ive been remiss in not getting into the Tiger build to even look at the work going on over there. Ive just got so much going on lately both modeling and personal.

Thank you Dennis. I know what you mean - I've been struggling to update my own threads let alone look at and comment in other peoples' threads.

What with all of the aircraft in this GB, I thought it would be nice to see one of your wingy things Stix. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that your 'Skybow Tiger' was not some rare American Fighter Bomber that I'd never heard of, but was just another Tiger TANK - and one that I've already seen in the Tiger GB!

With that misconception out of the way, I do look forward to seeing your accompanying Typhoo Tea Clipper. I had no idea that these large sailing ships took part in  the Normandy Landings, but we live and learn!

Oh, your Tiger is stunningly wonderful, BTW. Love that damage, and once again your mud is sublime!

Rearguards,

Badder

That looks fantastic mate!

I still can't believe how you get such great paint effects with a brush, outstanding!

Hi Craig and thank you, as always, for your very kind comments. I have to say it's only when I get round to taking the photos - like the ones above - that I'm convinced it looks okay. Up until this kind of time - and especially while I'm dabbing away with my stippling brushes - I'm never sure it's going to work out how I want it to.

Hi Badder and thank you for your comments. I am sorry your arrived here under a misconception - it must have been very disappointing! Hopefully the Typhoon - if I get it finished - will reassure you I can build other things!

@Badder, we - I - have hopes that Stix will build more than the Tiger Tank - check back through the tread ;)

Yes it's okay Robert - I am now working on the Thypoo Tea clipper!

Speaking of getting back to other things - this past weekend I managed to find some bits of time (in amongst gardening and household chores) to do some work on the Hasegawa kit.

First of all I got some thinned acrylic Humbrol 78 (Cockpit Green) - applied with a medium/small flat brush - painted in some areas of the insides of the fuselage walls - first coat:

48396525547_d17dc457bb_h.jpg

After getting a second coat of the green on, I applied some thinned Revell's Aqua Anthracite - again applied with a medium/small flat brush - on various cockpit parts:

48396386736_816966a2fd_h.jpg

Some of the above parts - painted with the Anthracite - were then dry-brushed with Revell's Aluminium:

48396549222_5195cf2866_h.jpg

The details on the walls of the upper cockpit areas were dry-brushed with Revell's Gunship grey - just to try and pull out some of those details:

48396552797_dda731bf54_h.jpg

Next I made up the photo-etched seat - it's slightly more detailed than the Hasegawa one!:

48396556267_c03c9aa11b_h.jpg

I did a bit of detail painting on the control column:

48396420211_99ea3cae1c_h.jpg

Then I had to think long and hard about this next bit. The Gunsight on the Typhoon was mounted on a bar which was mounted above and in front of the control panel. Hasegawa left the area solid and Eduard show how to remove the area and add a very thin piece of photo-etch to replicate the bar. I knew the PE part would be extremely fiddly to fit and secure and that I would, no doubt, break it off while doing any further work in the area. So my initial thought was to leave it solid as Hasegawa had made it. But, I knew having the solid area above the control panel, (and restricting the already minimal view of the panel) was going to annoy me. So I decided on a compromise - so out came my Exacto saw and scalpel. This is the result with one side done:

48396422676_b1068ed055_h.jpg

It's not perfect by any means and no-where near as thin as the PE replacement part but when completed it might give a better impression - although I am doing this Typhoon in flight with the cockpit closed - so very little will be seen anyway! The next photo shows it with both sides done:

48396565182_cede373dfe_h.jpg

I may do some more work on these once the fuselage sides are glued together and the sight is in place........or maybe I wont! We'll see.

As you will see in the photos above I had actually made a start on some of the additional PE cockpit parts:

48396574442_974c6c720c_h.jpg

48396439821_ed4af3960d_h.jpg

48396444296_74d2e589ab_h.jpg

I do wonder at times about all the extra detailing because very little of the cockpit will be seen. As I mentioned, above, it will be sealed up and with a pilot in place! But it's nice to know it's there.

Then I made a start on the radiators - and out came my Exacto Saw and files again:

48396588152_f52489c432_h.jpg

PE parts fitted and cut off parts re-glued on:

48396588012_ca49d05e32_h.jpg

A test fit of one of the frames:

48396450401_fb2caa7897_h.jpg

Finally, yesterday evening, I was looking at what needed to be fitted inside the fuselage - before I get back to fitting the Airfix motor I'm going to use to run the prop. I realised I had forgotten about the tailwheel. On inspection I realised that Hasegawa had only designed this kit to be sat on the ground with the wheels down. The tailwheel has a small unit it's designed to fit into from below, So I have to modify everything a little - although not much will be seen. First thing I did was extend the original peg - I flattened off the top of the original, drilled it, and some styrene rod, out and glued it together with a thin rod inside:

48396594977_7a78271496_h.jpg

....and that's as far as I got.

More next week.

The only suggestion I can think of Stix is to please keep going in the manner that you have.

I think the work you have done to recreate the gun-sight support is really good and a big step forward from what Hasegawa give you.

The etched details you are adding also make a huge difference to the cockpit and the IP looks very nice indeed.

Top work all round mate.

That tank is superb, love the added battle damage as well!

Great update on the typhoon, looks like your steaming ahead! Lovely details added with the PE, really makes a difference, and if it can’t be seen once she’s closed up? Well we all still know it’s there and so do you, time well spent

Hi Craig. Thank you very much for your kind comments. I do find I lean more towards making tank kits these days  -but I still enjoy a bit of the old aircraft modelling as well at times. This one has been quite a fun project so far..........famous last words?!

Hi Ozzy. Thank you very much for your comments - you are always very kind. I do enjoy making these scenes where I can get a prop to work in a kit that is not designed to have one - it does cause a little bit of thinking stress at times though! I think I have the basics of this one sorted - as you will be able to see in the photos below - but the actual spinner and prop still need to be added.

Thank you for your kind comments about the tank and progress with the Typhoon Rob.  The detailing bits and bobs from Eduard do take the cockpit up a notch.

lovely work so far fella!

Thank you very much Ian.

As always, at the moment, I seem to be struggling to find time to post the details of any progress I have made - and I have made some over the weekend. So it's Wednesday and this is the weekend update!!

First off I decided on the way I wanted to build up the cockpit - I figured, because of the delicate nature of some of the PE parts on the IP, that I would build up the frame first and add the IP itself before adding the tiny handles and leavers to the IP. These photos show it after I had added the latter:

48455027707_194c072b2d_h.jpg

48454872401_f029f7aa35_h.jpg

I also did some work on the seat - fitting some PE parts and attaching it to the bulkhead:

48455034522_68c3a2a8ca_h.jpg

This is the frame just sat in place - the seat and bulkhead are still not glued to the frame either:

48455039142_dcb0e16aea_h.jpg

48455039057_01ec249bc5_h.jpg

You'll notice in the photos above that the right hand - cockpit side - frame panel had not been attached - it is here:

48455042967_7541ab7891_h.jpg

And here is the frame sat in place on the starboard side:

48454893861_7b5a1e04f8_h.jpg

48455049362_8d302c9879_h.jpg

Hasegawa didn't design this kit to be built wheels up. So the landing bay doors do not sit that well in the wheelwells on their own or without some work - so I glued the two parts together for each and I had to file off a few areas to get them to sit flat. Also the gaps at the top needed a representation of the tops of the landing gear legs - which I fabricated from some bits of styrene rod:

48454903966_557f440313_h.jpg

....and with the doors sat in place:

48454903866_4381c809f6_h.jpg

Tailwheel painted:

48454909431_4dc2310d01_h.jpg

And then I got the tailwheel, front radiator and motor fixed in place in the fuselage sides:

48455069722_ce7626ffe0_h.jpg

Tailwheel:

48454914301_85666f1c4b_h.jpg

Motor:

More next weekend I hope.

Getting tantalisingly close to joining the fuselage halves Stix.

The cockpit looks excellent an the seat looks much better than the kit offering.

I think the way you have sorted the wheel wells is excellent, the pieces you have made to represent the undercarriage legs look spot on to me and the tail wheel looks very good.

This really is going to be another of your classics and I'm sure I'm not alone in really looking forward to seeing the end result.

Looking forward to the closing up of the fuselage 🍿

Ciao

Hi Giorgio and thank you. Not got to closing up the fuselage yet but I have been doing bits and pieces on the Typhoon.

I’ve had the day off today and managed to get some stuff done on it.

As I got the motor installed I figured I needed to be able to test if it works with the prop and spinner. As the connection is via a poly cap I needed to paint and assemble the prop and spinner before I could test it. Parts painted:

48497464277_4f64bd054d_b.jpg

....and glued together with a poly cap in place inside:

48497464017_12e03dff4b_b.jpg

I tested the setup by partially attaching the prop and spinner and it seemed to work okay. I didn’t push it on too far as I want to glue the fuselage halves together and get some paint on before getting the spinner and prop on properly.

As I have to get the pilot in place before sealing up the fuselage I got him painted:

48497298616_9dc7902398_b.jpg

Then I got him and the seat plus the bulkhead glued together:

48497301211_a01ec50760_b.jpg

Then it was time for a quick test of it in the fuselage sides:

48497313006_3298799725_b.jpg

48497481712_b72eb47df9_b.jpg

48497324346_27ff0efa96_b.jpg

48497493162_530e8142b1_b.jpg

Next I need to work on the aircraft support and getting the cables down through it. Hopefully tomorrow.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Kind regards,

Stix
