This kit offers decals forRM643/Z and RM635/Y.  Both 541 Sqdn at RAF Benson.

Each has fuselage stripes - but can anyone validate from their histories, any D-Day related missions that they took part in?

I bought a tin of Humbrol 230 PRU Blue yesterday, and am about to atomise some paint.

Looking great. I'm enjoying following this, reminds me of my Fujimi Spitfire XIV build... many years ago.

Decal leftover from a P-51b Mustang.

PRU blue, the best colour there is, and D-Day stripes! What’s not to like! She’s a treat.

Hi Tim,

I do like the Fujimi Griffin Spit, and I like your rendition a lot.  The PRU blue looks spot on to me.

If accuracy is your thing, the Mk XIXs at the time of D-day were, I believe, unpressurised.  So, the cabin air intake beneath the starboard exhaust stacks would need to be removed.  If the kit has the external canopy rails, these would also need to be removed.

If you're entirely unfussed or the build is too far advanced, please ignore my waffle.

I built an Airfix Mk XIX as a D-day Spit a while ago and found out the hard way . . .

Regards

Martin

Looks good Tim

And the model's not bad either.

Nah, the ale is well deserved, you've built a cracking Spitfire - saw it in the gallery

I've been asked how this kit compares with the Airfix PR19.

Not a kit that I've built (yet), but have got in my stash - so I've scrutinised that.

Initial thoughts are that Airfix looks an easier build.

Fujimi offers wartime options, whereas Airfix has post-war.

This build has some locations for an armoured screen, that I should have sanded off. Don't really know if feature in Airfix.

Airfix tailwheel undercarriage has open/closed doors, Fujimi has closed only, with wheel sticking out.

and the beer is going down a treat.

Nice build(s) Tim, I've long thought the XIX with the contraprops looked a real beast. I reckon you've caught it a treat. Its older brother looks just the way it should. :)

Steve.
