Welcome to the D-Day: 75th Anniversary of Normandy Landings

The group build runs Thursday, 6^th Jun 2019 to Sun, 29^th Sep 2019

Operation Overlord was the codename for the Battle of Normandy, the Allied operation that launched the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe during World War II. The operation was launched on 6 June 1944 with the Normandy landings (Operation Neptune, commonly known as D-Day). A 1,200-plane airborne assault preceded an amphibious assault involving more than 5,000 vessels. Nearly 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on 6 June, and more than two million Allied troops were in France by the end of August.

The period covered: 5th June - 30th August 1944

Operation Overlord (6th June - 30th August),

plus Airbourne Operations (e.g. Operation Tonga) between 5th and 7th June https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Tonga in direct support of Overlord;

and the Axis responces.

 

Finally to the rules

The build is essentially for any Allied or Axis units operating as part of Overlord, or in responce to that operation.

A unit may be a single figure, vehicle, aircraft or ship, or a larger grouping.

 

In addition, the usual Group Build rules apply:

• The model can be any scale.
• Aftermarket accessories, yes if you feel so inclined.
• All builds must be less than 25% complete at the start of the build, if in doubt please ask (we may allow it if the subject is something out of the ordinary).

Note: The Tiger Tank STGB started on 18th May, a few weeks before this group build... and Tiger tanks formed a significant part of the German defence.

If your D-Day build includes a Tiger it can be built [in the Tiger STGB] it will be under the 25% started for the D-Day GB, your Tiger can then be added to any D-Day diorama. e.g. Tiger v Sherman Firefly or Typhoon v Tiger or a mixed Tiger, Panther unit. Hopefully you get the idea, only your Tiger build will go in [Tiger STGB] gallery.

• All entries must have a WIP thread showing your progress, models cannot go into the gallery unless a build thread with a minimum of 3 updates is present.
• When complete, add your build pictures to the Gallery thread and please add up to 5 images. If you have more add them to your build thread and link the gallery post back to it.
• No buying, wanted or for sale ads in you GB threads, there are appropriate buy, swap and sell sections in Britmodeller for this
• There may be a poll or two to vote for your favourite builds at the end of the GB, please do not canvas for votes when voting time comes.
• No What-If or fictional craft or schemes (the Film, Fictional and Speculative GB is coming from Sat, 28 Sep 19 to Sun, 19 Jan 20 so fill your boots then)
• Be polite and constructive with your comments to other member’s builds
