Here we go with another plane with teeth.

I plan on breaking out the airbrush for this so am quite worried about fudging it up.

Lots of aftermarket including resin props and wheels to brass barrels.

Thanks, I really liked the way the belts turned out.  Almost got a worn split leather thing going on.  The plastic seat colour I had to mess around with as well to get the right effect which of course you can barely see.

Started work on some more lovely sanding.

Now comes the adventurous part.

I have to drill two holes in each wing for the metal barrels.  One I can easily do because of the cut off Hispano cannon, but I’ve got to free ball it for the adjacent cover.

Had to rinse the resin parts today as I forgot to do that.  Doh.  Prop should get done in short order after that dries.

Trying to muster up courage for paints and using the airbrush for the first time...

Playing with an airbrush is a lot of fun.  Spend some time playing around on an old bin model (I've got an old 1/72 Hellcat that got damaged by the cat that has turned into my weathering practice/test mule) or even just some random plastic.  You'll want to play around w/ different thinning mixtures and get a feel for the trigger action of the brush (especially if it's a dual action).  I'm certainly no pro at it, and I still have a long way to go, but it is a leap I'm glad I made.

Practice, practice, practice.  Biggest thing is get a feel for the brush & paints you're using before tackling the model.  Once you are comfortable with how the brush will perform, most of the anxiety of airbrushing the model will be gone.

Great progress. It can be challenging to drill larger holes in plastic and it is indeed tricky to fit all the barrels nicely aligned in the vertical and horizontal axis. I found using 15 min epoxy glue helps as it gives you time to get it all aligned.

Update:  So I’ve started airbrushing...

Holy sweet flying fack, what have I been doing restricting myself all these years.  Someone smack me upside the head.

It’s so bloody easy and the finish and control are unparalleled when it comes to fine lines.

I did my wildcat and have popped on the azure blue for this spit.  Now have to lay down the final coat and start masking tonight. Should start to look more finished shortly.

Your airbrushing looks great. I still struggle airbrushing acrylics, but it looks you mastered it well

Prepped for the Dark Earth, notice how in the second pic the masks weren’t perfect.

I still was able to achieve a damn good line by spraying from straight above.

Here she is all painted up,  lovely colours.

I used these masks and I was worried about bleed through but there was barely any if at all,  now I’ll be saving and using them for a VVS Spitfire.

First phase of washes and some assembly before decals.  Afterwards I will try and add paintchips and some desert dust and get the flat coat on.  Tempted to try using my airbrush to experiment with fading of paint and engine exhaust.  Thoughts for that?

Definitely Practice that first... If its done right it can look good, just remember less is more. However If its done wrong you've gone and completely ruined your build.

I would hate to see that.  I put too much PE and resin in for that to happen.  Advice taken!

Decals are applied.  Next is some more weathering and then when I’m happy with that I’ll put on a little desert dust, do some chipping and then the flat coat goes on.

I’ll leave the experimenting exhaust till the end.

So decided to stick with pastels for the exhaust,  couldn’t bring myself to risk an accident.  Then of course I became impatient after weathering and put the flat coat on before waiting to dry.  Low and behold some areas the paint underneath shrank and cracked.  I was so miffed.  Once I saw that I just stuck another coat on and prayed.  Seemed to do the trick.  Thankfully.

Im really pleased with how my airbrush performed and the way this one turned out.

I used some desert yellow ink to blend everything together once I thought it was finished.  Super cool looking bird.

Finished GB number 2, on to the next.
