1/144 kits

Hi all,

 

Quick question, are there any 1/144 kits of WW1 aircraft out there and who manufactures them?

Probably Valom 1:144 are the most prolific for WW1 aircraft.  I have also seen white metal kits of these types but can't remember who produced them.

Obviously they are seriously tiny so bring good eyesight.

The Valom kits are fairly rudimentary, although the decals appear to be very good.  Brengun do a Fokker EIII and a Voisin, as well as some sort of stripped down DH-2 if I recall.

There are the Wings of War or Wings of Glory gaming miniatures which can be reworked, as well as the Spad and Albatross DIII by the Japanese gashapon company called F-Toys.  However those can be very pricey nowadays.

The white metal kits Bootneck mentioned might be Red Eagle Miniatures, who do a large range, including a 42 inch long Zeppelin (though that's not made from white metal, for obvious reasons).

White metal kits used to be produced by Skytrex, but quite crude. There was an extensive range of resin kits by Sram, variable quality but some very good ones. Hard to find nowadays.

Just checked and the kits are by Mamoli, as seen in the example below:

Checking my Skytrex F2b against the Scalemates image of a Mamoli kit of same, the metal is identical.

Thanks for all the info guys, it really is very much appreciated.

Northstar models do a fantastic Pflaz E.IV if you can find it, very good resin and PE.

 

Regarding Valom kits, some are good, some are not and require extensive modification to make any sort of decent model.
