magpie1832
Hi all, Having started a FW190 but had many ships sat waiting and I was itching to build another so the plane has taken a back seat. I'm build this with the Eduard Big Ed set and wooden decks. The paint scheme Will be the disruptive colours. Only thing is the ship is being built as 1945 refit. So paint won't match the year, I'm not after too much accuracy but a nice looking model to display at home. This is my first Tamiya kit so hopefully it will be a good one. I started by drilling the portholes out then cleaning the decks up. Chris
magpie1832
I have now installed the decks and cleaned up the joints around the edge of the decks. I have started adding the PE lockers parts too. Chris

magpie1832
Thanks for the nice comments guys. Been busy doing minuscule work. I've been adding more etch and generally building up the towers. Had no major faults or parts missing. The Eduard instructions are very good but you do need to go between the them and then tamiya ones many times over and over to make sure you get them right. magpie1832
Thanks for looking in. Here are the latest picture from this weekend. This camo pattern is tricky to keep it wrapping around correctly. Chris Edited August 11, 2019 by magpie1832
magpie1832
I have been away for a while moving home etc, and have started back at it. I have got this for over last few weeks. I have the tops of the funnels to do then onto the weaponry or the life boats which have many PE parts. Here are the pics. Chris[/size]
Gisbod
Good job on the camo Chris, Have you airbrushed the superstructures or brushed? Guy

magpie1832
Thank you all for the nice comments. The structure is airbrushed first in grey then mostly hand painted camo but the hull and major parts are Completely masked and airbrushed. I have done the tops for the funnels and now started the weapons. First had problems with the PE. I shaved off the plastic to make the discs and got the PE part. Wrapped it around and it was short. So i attempted to file them down but failed. So Got some 3mm dowel and made 1mm discs to do them. I am pleased with the result of these considering the size. Glued fingers and parts and tooth pick to everything in the process. Chris Edited June 14, 2020 by magpie1832
OutcastJoel
Wow, this is stunning! Are those buttons the Oerlikon tubs? I have just trawled through the the whole thread and have to say you are making me want to build this kit! I don't really have the space for it so I shall resist but you have made it pretty hard.
magpie1832
Hi OutcastJoel. Yes it is the Oerlikon tubs. Very small and fiddly. Its not to big, I have Trumpy 1/350 USS Nimitz, USS Kitty Hawk and 1/200 USS Iowa to do. Now they're big lol. Here they are al painted and fitted, also made a start on the Turrets. Number 1 is ready for paint. Chris
magpie1832
Morning all. I have now finished the PE on the other turrets and primed ready for the main colours. Then get them fitted. Jasper dog
Having never built a boat your build is tempting me to have a go... Great work, the photo etch and wood enchantments really lift this kit. Following with interest. Atb Darryl 1
magpie1832
Cheers for looking in. Ships are quite the same as Planes just lots more fiddly bits. I couldn't do a 1/72 aircraft as to small for my eyes lol All painted and drilled out the barrels. Just weathering then fitting properly.
