Here is my attempt at the last kit to come out of the Rovex design office, interestingly, this never saw the inside of a Frog box. Only 500 test shots were made before the moulds were shipped off to the (then) USSR. So here it is, my first biplane from the Emhar boxing, the 1/72 Anatra DS Anasal. An aircraft of which only around 100 were made. This one is depicted in its typical Imperial Russian Air Force markings circa 1917.

My build thread is here

I would say that this was the most enjoyable of my Fog GB builds so far - 3 of the others have been bi-planes.

Purists and those of a nervous disposition- don't scroll down! It's here in all it's lurid redness, but if you want to see how it got here- then this is the build thread

Spanish Civil War, Republican Forces a/c. As rendered by Frog, though nowadays the how red it was is questioned...

Hi everybody.

Here is my take on the Frog Grumman F8F-1B Bearcat. Leroy Grumman tasked his designers to produce a plane the same size as the Wildcat and with better performance than the Hellcat, and they did pretty well. Unfortunately the Bearcat arrived just as the war with Japan was ending, and had been replaced by jets by the time the Korean War started, so it only saw combat service with the French in what was then French Indo China, now Vietnam. Another of aviation histories "near msses".

It's a nice little kit and even the decals worked. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed building it - thanks for watching.

Competed Wellington by Maquette, never issued by Frog and judging by the sprues the moulds were not finished! So OOB apart from;

-Quickboost tail wheel, air scoops, main wheels, prop hubs.

-Scratchbuilt cockpit interior, undercarriage, aerial, gun turret interiors and guns, engine fronts, nacelle gills.

-Airfix spare canopy

-Falcon front turret and crash moulded copy for the rear.

-Peter B's hand cast resin DF loop housing (thank you)

Think that's about it but I think the overall shape is very good and had it been issued would probably have sold well.

Off to Flying boat GB next!

A kit that has languished for far too long in the stash, so this GB offered the ideal opportunity to do something about it.

The Frog kit offers a chance to build the Finnish version, so with the help and encouragement of my mate V-P @vppelt68, please find the finnished (yes I know 😉 ) article below, hope you like it.

cheers Pat

And a bit like the final Ashes score make that 2-1 to England @Rabbit Leader in the GB host completed build score ! 😉

So here is my Hotspur, I still can't believe we have a GB with 3 of these in it, I'd never seen a completed one before !

Hope you like it

Cheers Pat

Fairly Firefly MkI. Plastyck boxing and painted with Xtracrylix brush painted and varnished with Liquitex matt varnish. Built OOB and kit transfers used. I'm not 100% sure of their authenticity but according to the kit they're for an aircraft from 800 NAS on HMS Triumph in 1945-46. I've stuck with the kit transfers as keeping with the Frog spirit.

Blackburn Shark of 820 NAS, HMS Courageous in 1937. Brush painted with Revell Aluminium and Black upperworks, and Xtracrylix Light Aircraft Grey for the Cerrux Grey. A fair number of trials and tribulations can be found in the build thread but it does build into a nice looking aircraft. No additional detailing apart from a control column, which can't be seen anyway, otherwise OOB. There is capacity to do a lot more detailing especially of the cockpit and engine. And rigging which I avoid anyway.  Here she is for your delectation.

This is my build of the Frog Macchi C.202 Folgore. There are a number of accuracy issues with the kit, including too narrow an undercarriage track, thin prop blades and the wrong shape of the spinner. I have replaced the prop and spinner and done a bit of detailing, but otherwise it is as Frog intended.

I believe that there were over 1000 202's produced before the Italian surrender, made by 3 different manufacturers and in 13 different "Serie" or variants. As best I can tell the kit represents an early Serie III plane so I have marked it to match a picture of such a machine operated in the Western Desert in mid 1942. It carries the "prancing horse" insignia of 4o Stormo, 10o Gruppo, 91a Squadriglia, which was subsequently adopted by Enzo Ferrari for his cars. The actual aircraft would have had a simpler "blotch" type green pattern, but I rather like the "smoke ring" camo so have painted that instead. Later models had wing machine guns and some even had cannon, but this has the typical light armament which plagued Italian fighters for most of the war - just 2 x 12.7mm guns in the top of the cowling.

Other than a problem with the wings caused by own clumsiness, and a rather poorly designed undercarriage, it went together pretty easily and I am pleased with the result.

Hope you like it and thanks for your interest.

Hawker Seahawk, originally from 1955 but this is the Novo boxing from 1978. Built straight out of the box including the moulded pilot's head and lack of undercarriage wells. The plastic was rock hard and took a fair amount of sanding to get things right but overall doesn't look bad. It wad also jet black so took a fair few coats of paint to cover it up. I'm glad I didn't decide to have white undersides. I imagine I'd still be painting. The Novo transfers were just shocking and I had no confidence that they would not shatter on being wetted.  The 64 year old plastic moulding was a lot better than the younger transfers. I used some generic roundels and transfers left over from a Hobbyboss Seahawk build. Apart from a little touching up of the Suez stripes around the exhaust, they did the business. So here we are Seahawk XE375 of 810 NAS on HMS Albion during the Suez crisis in 1956.

Spirit of St Louis

FROG F166 1/72

Here is my build of the FROG release of Charles Lindberg's Spirit of St Louis. Built mainly as it comes in the box with a few extra bits and pieces to jolly it up. I painted it with Tamiya Silver Leaf from a rattle can, and the representative Engine Turning on the nose panels was added with a 1.0mm  Molotov Chrome pen.

Frog released a kit of the RAF Hornet MkIII in 1971 offering a camo version in dark grey/green and PRU blue and a Medium Sea Grey version also with blue unders both from around 1950. I bought it not long after and built the Camo version in the markings of 41 Squadron. When I entered this GB I decided to build the other version Frog offers, a Medium Sea Grey one belonging to 19 Squadron, and here it is – the decals are actually the ones left over from my original build!

During the process of building the new kit, I posted a picture of the old one, which by now had become very yellowed and was looking a bit sad. It was suggested it would make a good restoration project so I thought it would be amusing to refurbish it alongside the new build. I therefore stripped the paint off with considerable difficulty having coated it with Ronseal wood varnish, repaired and replaced various broken or damage parts, and made a start on it. Originally modelled wheels up, I had to make resin wheels and a scratch built undercarriage, and I painted it in the camo pattern as before.

Dave has suggested I include it in the build, so here are my pictures of the pair of them.

The early post war ones were in silver, but these are the two later camo schemes, the green/grey being applied last when they were designated as low level bombers for counter terrorist work and in Germany.

A fairly simple build of a rather good looking machine. I hope you like it.

Just the Shackleton to go!
