Doom3r
Hi, I've come across few good kits that I would like to build. However the biggest downside is that fabric wings are represented with something that looks like a raised panel line (HobbyCraft I-16 Type 10). I wonder what techniques would you recommend to reproduce fabric effect on the wings in such case. Thanks
Black Knight
Contrary to model companies beliefs fabric aeroplane surfaces have neither raised or grooved 'panel' lines nor do they have hills and valleys. If the wing ribs or fuselage formers show at all they are only very slightly raised. Sand off all moulded surfaces and put on thin narrow strips of decal film at the wing rib stations. When painted over they will be sufficient to indicate a fabric wing. Thats for 1/72 In 1/48 use thin tape like Tamiya. Put the strips on and lightly sand their edges to feather them down to the plastic wing surface.
