A Tiny Biter - DH Mosquito B IV - #FINISHED 30/04/19#

Recommended Posts

Having made a complete hash of my first Blitzbuild, I thought that I would dig this little Mossie out of the stash and have another crack at one. I will be going for the two 12 hour sessions option and I hope to complete it this time around.

That look's a stunning little kit great scale for this type of GB too!

It looks as though it should go together easily, there are a few moulding stubs on the inner faces of some parts but they should come off easily. I not too sure about the decals, some of the code letter colours look a bit suspect, so with a short deadline some careful retouching may be required.

Nearly three hours in and I am almost ready to close up the fuselage. I still have to add the instrument panel decal then fix that in place and an early test fit of fuselage indicates that there should be few issues if any. The plan is to complete the assembly in this session, and if there is still time left then I will make a start on painting the lower surfaces.

Thanks for the clock comments, it was made by a friend as a birthday gift and resides in the room where I do my modelmaking.

Did the nose windows fit ok? Or are you saving those for later (can’t quite see).

I hadn't fitted them earlier, but all of the fuselage windows fit really well. You just need to trim the tiny amounts of flash out of the openings checking the fit of the clear parts as you are going along.

The wings are a bit of a tight fit and I had to do a bit of trimming to get mine to fit, I would suggest that you give them a scrape to thin them down which may help. I will be going down that route on my next build.

I also found it useful to assemble the nacelles and fit the little bulkheads from the top before fixing to the wings and again you need to do some bits of trimming when you fix them to the wings. Basically it is just a matter of neatening up the corners to get the parts sitting properly.

Hope this helps when you get around to building yours.

This was the state of play around 11:30 pm, as you can see the wings and fuselage have been assembled, I then attached the nacelles and this was set aside to harden up.

Before closing up the fuselage earlier I fixed the decal to the instrument panel, then I assembled one of the nacelles to determine the best method of assembly of these parts for me. I found that by gluing the two halves together first I could fix the two bulkheads in position from the top.

Good morning folks, just a quick update before I start todays session. I added some filler to the top joins of the nacelles and sanded that back last night, and having looked over the model in daylight, I can see a couple of other areas that require some attention before I start painting. This was how I left things at 02:00am.

The usual fayre for breakfast this morning, a bowl of cereal, a banana and a glass of orange juice. With the time approaching 11:30 am I should be able to squeeze in elevenses before a High Noon start.

Great work good buddy and compliments to Mrs N for the meals.

Cheers Buddy, just having a break for some lunch before starting the next session. Mrs N is out on a spending spree at the Trafford Centre, so it is a case of 'sort yourself out' Here's what I have rustled up.

A ham sandwich, a couple of slices of buttered malt loaf and a Rocky biscuit, all washed down with a mug of coffee.

Now for the afternoon update, here is where I started from this morning.

Since then I have tidied up those areas that required extra work, added the tailplanes, wingtips and cockpit glazing. The tailplane fit is a bit sketchy, it would be of benefit to pin it and that is what I will do on future builds. The canopy and nose glazing fit really well and I use Tamiya Extra Thin to hold them in position, once dry I ran a thin bead of Gators Grip thin blend round the edge to seal them in.

So this is what we have before breaking for lunch.

A brief update before our evening meal, curry tonight. The model has been primed and the first coat of medium sea grey was brushed on the undersides.

Well folks the clock has ticked around to 11:30pm and I am saddened to have report that this one will miss the deadline. I have just finished adding the last of the decals but still have quite a bit to do, canopy to paint, undercarriage and wheels to finish paint and assemble, exhausts to paint, aerial to fix and rig and varnish coat to seal everything in.

This makes it a second Blitzbuild fail for me, but I am determined to crack these - so I will have another go at some point in the future. I guess you could say that the 'Tiny Biter' bit back. :D

So here is where I got to at the end. The painting was completed by 10'ish

And as stated previously. I had finished the decals by 11:30. I will get this finished ASAP and post photos in RFI when complete.
