NATO Tiger Meet 2019 (take-off & landing images added)

Recommended Posts

Hi

I spent two days at Mont-de-Marsan, near Bordeaux for my first ever Tiger Meet.

Thursday was spent outside the base in beautiful weather, but the Spotters' Day on Base Aérienne 118 Mont-de-Marsan on Friday couldn't have been more different. It rained most of the day, which meant that my cameras and I were in our waterproofs!

I took many, many images but here are a few from outside the wire.

Great images. The 2019 Tiger schemes look very cool, indeed. Let's hope some of them get over to the UK for Fairford.

Thanks for sharing with us. Please post some taxying shots.

Chris.

Thanks, gentlemen. It would be great to see some of these airframes again in July!

I will post some shots from the (wet) Spotters' Day. Just make sure that you're in your foul-weather gear...🤣

Thanks Troffa. It was great to see the Portuguese F-16s. My favourite image is the banking specially-marked Mirage 2000 (#8) with his wingman in the background.

Thanks very much for adding the taxying shots. Again, some lovely images. I never realised that they suffer "British Summertime" in other countries, too.

Cheers.

What a contrast between the two days! My favourites are 20, 21, 22. Many thanks for sharing these.

Thanks for the replies and "likes". I'm pleased that you liked the second batch. The weather was indeed a contrast between the days! Fortunately, the weather forecast was accurate, which at least meant that I had appropriate clothing with me!

I'm interested that you liked those three images, Latinbear. I was trying to capture two aircraft to make the images more exciting, but I wasn't sure that the two images framed by the trees "worked". I was trying to frame them so that the eye was drawn to the aircraft, but I wondered if the trees were more of a distraction. I'm still undecided, but pleased that you like them!😉

I've wrung out the memory cards and present some of my favourite take-off and landing shots from the very wet Spotters' Day. Image quality is not the best due to the conditions. (Racing driver excuse!🤣)

A good selection from a difficult couple of days. Being completely sun burnt in 31'c sun on Thursday to being drenched with pouring rain and a crazy 20'c colder on Friday was a strange mix! However, this made for interesting photos. The low light led to many slow shutter challenges between me and the team, keeping the iso non above 200 and shooting typhoons at 1/20th was just real good fun!

Thanks jet-mech. As you say, the conditions were varied and challenging across the two days! 1/20th? Wow, that's impressive! Did you get many keepers? The slowest shutter speed I used was 1/60th on the first wave taxi shots and 1/80th on the landing roll-out shots when the weather has improved nearer to 17.00.

That Portuguese F-16B is the first aircraft I’ve seen that actually looks like the way we paint our models 😂

Hi Alan. I agree! When I saw that airframe, I smiled!

The Spanish Hornets and the Italian 2-seat Typhoon (#85) are similarly weathered.

I love a challenge when it comes to shooting aircraft. As for keepers, I'd say 90% are keepers. I've earned the nickname of "iron arm" from the guys in the Spanish AF. I'll upload some images later when Flickr is back!
