Alan P
Thanks for accepting this late entry! This IS the Sharkmouth you were looking for! This is a super little kit. Really impressed by the quality and precision of the mouldings: Panels and rivet detail is a bit heavy but the detail just pops out. The detail in the rocket pods is really nice... The kit provides virtually every weapon the US Army Cobras used in the post-Vietnam era before the upgrade to the S-model, including the fearsome XM-35 cannon: The kit gives you options for different layouts, with and without XM-35, and offers both tail left and right rotor options: The clear parts are really well done, and give you the option of both canopy doors open or closed: The instruction sheet is nicely presented with full colour profiles of all the decal options: This is my choice for the groupbuild - obviously! On with the show... Alan Edited June 27, 2019 by Alan P
Alan P
Had a crack at the Cobra this afternoon: This just falls together. Really impressive details, including the seat and side armour and aircon hoses for the seats. Happy to use the decals for the instrument panels as there is no moulded detail for the instrument faces. I usually build in 1/32 so this is really tiny for me! I don't know how most people do this day in day out I can tell this is going to be a fun build. Nice kit, good fit and detail and a nice subject. Alan Edited May 19, 2019 by Alan P
whiskey
I would give up every model I own for an exceptional representation of this in 1/48. You're looking like you're off to a great start Alan, can't wait to see it finished.

I've built a bunch of them in 1/32 using the ancient Revell kit as a base. I totally agree, the hobby really does need a decent big scale kit of this sleek bird! whiskey
So 3-8 CAV is still around btw. I dunno when it was, probably back 25 years ago they switched over to Armor. They were my sister squadron while I was in 3ABCT, 1st Cav. Just a bunch of Bradleys and Abrams nowadays. We were the sweetheart stepchildren of the brigade but 3-8 were the idiots, they always had something crazy happen to them.

neil5208
I had this kit in my basket several times but never bought it as I have not seen one first hand but after seeing your pictures I will pick one up soon. Good to see more helicopters in this group build, look forward to your progress.
Alan P
Hi All, Still having fun with this excellent kit. The fit is very good, requiring minimal treatment of the seams. the plastic is quite soft but responds really well to my favourite glue (Mr Cement S) I added a slice of mesh to improve the look of the vent beneath the engine. Not sure what it's for, maybe an APU? Also finished off the weapons ready for painting. Really nice kit, looking forward to painting! Alan P
There will be a short interlude while I wait for a delivery of paints! How could I not have a useable bottle of Olive Drab in my paint stash? 🙄 And I call myself a modeller... Alan P
Okay, the paint arrived. It's my first experience of MRP lacquer paints from Slovakia. I've heard a bit of buzz about them so thought I'd give them a try. I have to say, I'm a convert! It's very easy to use with great coverage. I painted the black parts with AMT-6 Russian black, masked off and then sprayed the FS34087 Olive Drab. In the end I don't think the Olive Drab is quite 'brown' enough - maybe it's the black undercoat. It will look very different after weathering. Also, it's such a clean finish with the paint this almost looks like a diecast toy. I also painted the rotor blades but didn't take any pics. More soon! Basilisk
Looks very smart with a coat of paint. I to like to use MRP lacquer paints as they are trouble free to airbrush. Cheers, Peter

Today was decal day - finally you get what you came here for - the sharkmouth! The decals need a bit of tidying around the crew step on each side, but that's a small issue. The decals are from the kit and went on very well with MicroSet and Sol. There were plenty of stencils and the result makes it seem bigger than the tiny 1/72 it is: Also fitted the fins and exhaust, small details which change the whole look of the aircraft: Next step: finishing effects! Alan P
This Cobra shark is almost finished - first pass with the panel lines wash: And then the paint effects, using pastels and Mr Metal Color Stainless and Chrome: This little bird will be finished very soon... Alan P
Well, this one's finished! The first groupbuild entry I've completed since 2015. This kit was an absolute pleasure to build. Great presentation, good instructions, excellent detail and fit and the sharkmouth metric well and truly nailed! Thanks to all who contributed joy to the build!
