Stamford model show. Such a sad event

Recommended Posts

Now £60,000+

Target moved from £500 to £75,000!

Was on Radio 2 Jeremy Vine, apparently Rod Stewart has donated £10,000.

This is a truly sickening and wicked act of spite. It’s well known that model railways are not seen as a “sexy” hobby but it has to be one of the gentlest and unassuming past times. Nobody deserves to have their treasured work destroyed in this way. What is so heartening about all this is the reaction it has provoked, not just in the railway modelling community but the broader modelling community in general and across the world. I was an avid railway modeller until I came back to plastic modelling and am pleased to see the solidarity being shown on this forum.

The unbelievable lack of respect and decency shown by those cretins is disgusting. Sometimes the only suitable punishment is bags over the head on the Brecon Beacons waiting for the SAS to use them as live training assets.

Utter w******. I hope the judge takes into account the emotional stress caused and time invested and doesn't just treat it like a bit of graffiti in a bus shelter.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We all have our own ideas on the how and what should be done to the perpetrators, fair enough.

BUT, if I can suggest that if anybody wishes to help the club and members with a few sheckles, other currency's available, for financial help, have a look here, with thanks to the OP, Steve @fightersweep :-

Target has been raised to £75,000, currently stands at just over £64,000, this includes the £10,000 donation by Mr. Rod Stewart................yes, THAT Mr. Rod Stewart!

So instead of preaching fire and brimstone, turn the negatives into a positive, it's much easier on the digestion!

Now truly International, recent donation from a modeller in Japan.

Posted (edited)

Many years ago I used to build model railways and exhibit them at a range of exhibitions across the country but I can only imagine how the modellers must have felt entering the exhibition hall on Saturday morning for what should have been an enjoyable day. When Mrs PlaStix showed me the article about the events on Saturday I actually felt my heart sink. All that work gone in a mindless act. I am really pleased that the money is being raised but money won't replace all the effort, often over many years, that has gone into those exhibits. I know I would have been absolutely devestated if that had happened to one of my layouts. I hope the perpetrators are suitably punished but I have little hope that that will happen.

I am saddened that someone would do that to someone else's work.

Kind regards,

Stix

I rather like the idea of a branding instead, bit more painful and not as easy to cover or remove.

I'm good with that.

It is really kind of people to donate the large sum of money.

The real problem is you cannot repair heart ache.

Seems that 4 were arrested at a school & released. In the end

it will depend on what sort of parents they have if any difference

is made.

@LaurieS the furthest place that I've seen a donation from is Japan, which in my book makes this response truly International.

Agreed, nothing can repair Heart ache or give back the time taken for the originals to be built. I just hope for those that have suffered the financial and time loss that they can see the loco's and displays as purely 'things', which by their nature are transient and can be replaced, should they wish. Lives are a completely different matter.

Small update, the following report:-

QUOTE:- "I did read that the parents have offered financial recompense which would suggest to me they come from reasonably well off families."

I don't know where the report originated, but it, at least, is a small positive.

Agreed Paul.

Community service & lots of it so they do not ever forget & ensure they pass

this on to their children. Community serivice during football time etc.

Restriction restricted for a good time beyond 6:00pm to their own home.

Suspect that would be to harsh though against theri human rights. Sad.

If true, then that is good to hear as it would indicate that they are probably as mortified as the rest of us, more so I would imagine as I wouldn't want to be any of those parents right now.

Hi Steve, @fightersweep we can but hope that it is.

What amazes me are the locations the donations are being made from.

Japan, I've already mentioned, South Africa, many mainland European Countries and throughout the UK.

The World may have it's problems, but it's nice to see the silent majority coming together to say 'not on our watch'.

Total is currently just under £69,000, not too shabby in a little over twenty four hours.

Words fail me. Flogging would be too good for them.

Wonderful response, but it cannot compensate for the time and skills that were invested in the layouts.

They could specialise in stately homes and castles with nice wide chimneys where they could climb up two at a time and have a chat about what happened....

£78249 at present. I would take their mobile phones away for 10 years for starters. That might hit hard.

Punishment in itself think four families are going to suffer.

Hope they learn.

Indeed Laurie, @LaurieS Stamford's a small place, Market Deeping, smaller.

They don't know it yet, but this will live on for years, they will come to regret their collective stupidity.

Depends on how hard you push.

i know if I were their parents, after beating the crap out if them, I’d let them watch while I destroyed all their stuff including their phones, computers and anything else they saw value in.

Nah, something far worse, take the charging cables away, that way they can watch how much time they DON'T have left! :wicked:

Well, in Scotland there's a bill going through the Scottish "Parliament" to ban smacking children (happening in Wales too). So a parent can't "smack" a child, not even gently. So if. for example, a parent even grabs a child's arm to stop them running out into the street they can be charged and hit with the full force of the Criminal Law.  As such, I don't think some of the options mooted here will be accepted as acceptable in Scotland (or Wales).   😂

These poor people though, such a horrible site greeting them when they entered the hall.

Personally, I would lock them up (but only if they consented of course, musn't force them) and put them on a diet of "Guga" for a month. Guga is the great Isle of Lewis delicacy of salted Gannet (The feathered type, not the metal type) and - whilst I do like it - a month of nothing but Guga would turn my hair white within a week.

I should probably delete this before my Beloved Goverment finds it and removes my kids.

Actually, on second thoughts, take them... Especialy the totally loopy, 15 year old, brain fart, currently eyebrow obsessed, female one with the seriously stupid looking 6" long nails. If brains were made of explosives she wouldn't have enough to blow her nose. If they were chocolate she wouldn't have enough to fill a Smartie.

Despite her vacuousness, I hope we've insilled far more than enough decency in the kids to never even contemplate something this vicious and nasty!
