New variant in 2022 - ref. 61123 - Lockheed P-38J Lightning

Quote

★ This is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit depicting the Lockheed P-38J Lightning, a WWII aircraft of which around 10,000 were manufactured.

★ The dynamic form is captured in style, complete with enlarged engine cowlings and radiator fairings.

★ Air ducts connecting engine underside intercoolers and oil coolers are a real treat and should not be missed.

★ Features an accurate rendering of the altered canopy with flat front face.

★ Comes with three marking options, plus masking stickers to aid with painting of the canopy, a background information text on the P-38J, and a full color painting guide.

ALthough a very nice kit, it was a no-brainer that the P-38J (and L?) would eventually be released 😋

Not when it comes to Tamiya, you never know what they are going to do!

Certain things are more predictable than orthers I would say

Yes like Tamiya spending more money tooling an F-16C so a D could be produced or a P-47D so a late D/M could be produced 😉

Not the best Tamiya box art perhaps? but looks like this pic was taken behind glass with reflections ETC?

But for sure I will be buying one, even if its the only new kit I buy this year due to living costs going up steeply.

It will be a superb state of the art 1/48 P-38 J Lightning kit for sure and I just cant wait to get to the exterior painting stage to do some masking for subtle variations in the bare metal polished finish.

See how easy it is Academy. Just change the booms and give us a state of the art P-38F/G from your late P-38 kit is 1/72. Just like Tamiya, but smaller and in reverse. You know you want to.

Heh, can remember my first 1/48 P-38 Lightning build and that was not so long ago, it was the Hasegawa Virginia Marie aircraft, great scheme, but oh boy, hard work for my skill set, or perhaps I got a bad example? it was the tail boom problem, getting the tail fins vertical, tried soft warm water dipping, elastic band's pulling fins slightly beyond where they should be, leaving them in warm water and hoping it would all spring back to vertical shape, no chance, not for me, have seen beautify built Hasegawa examples though, but my point is ... with Tamiya engineering, it will be right out of the box and we can get on with the rest of the build less hassle wise :)

I've got a Trumpy 1/32 P-38 too, always hoped for a Tamiya one, so holding on to it a bit longer, although 1/48 is my preferred scale now, do have a soft spot for certain WW2 Aircraft, especially 1/32 Tamiya kits, but others too.

Really looking forward to this new Tamiya P-38 J, couple of months now I guess? 👍

I have been looking forward to this since 2020

Hopefully the aftermarket decal companies will go to town on this

There are some great schemes from the 8th FG and the 475th FG, personly  I would like to see markings for Joe Forsters  Florida Cracker from the 432nd FS

Good afternoon dear friends.

You all know very well that on February 24, 2022, Russia attacked My country.

It all started with rocket attacks and bombardments of peacefully sleeping cities.

Today we are still trying to work even though the hordes of rapists and murderers are located 40 kilometers from my beautiful Zaporozhye.

The work helps distract from the constant air raid sirens and periodic shelling and bombing of the city.

Despite all the difficulties, postal and transport services are working and this allows us to send our products to customers.

We have completed several of our projects that were started before the start of the war.

Arado Ar 196 B-0 in 1/48 scale is intended as a kit conversion from Italery.

P-38 Floatplane in 1/48 scale is intended for conversion kit from Tamiya P-38 F/G.

I hope that the sets will go on sale soon.

And a few more words that are not related to modeling.

I would like to especially thank the peoples of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia who received most of our women and children.

In the most difficult times, you see who is ready to lend you a helping hand.

Thank you very much!

I managed to evacuate my wife and two children to the Czech Republic.

Many thanks to Lubomir Kriz and Oleg Dudko, who helped in the evacuation and accommodation of my family.

Take care of yourself during this difficult time.

Best regards from Ukraine, Andrey.

Слава Україні! Героям слава!

Beautiful, just beautiful, Came on just now to mention this release, because it should be due about now, but because of lots of global issue reasons, its obviously slipped a bit ... LOL projected release dates for new Tamiya kits always seem to slip, and that's OK.

I guess another month or so for UK widespread ordering, not seeing any available yet in the usual far east retailers either.

I have the Tamiya F/G release already, but this is the version I really wanted ... and if I only have one more kit this year ( apart from Airfix's new 1/48 Buccaneer ) then this will be it by a country mile.

I cant wait for this one, will build both together.
