Here I am. Rock you like a hurricane (are you ready, baby?) The Airfix Hurricane 1/24

Recommended Posts

Been following this build and am mightily impressed! Truly breathtaking. I have the 1/24th 109 in my stash but seriously want to build the hurricane. @The Spadgent as a midlands based modeller have you checked out Mikes Models in Brum?

Thanks kid. I built the 109 and did a WIP too. Check out my year books. Two years ago I think? As for Mikes models. I’ve heard of it but never been, is it good? We have penn models down the road but the guys seem more interested in radio controlled cars which is a shame. Ian Allen has just shut down in the City but Mike has just opened “Tornado models” next to the law courts which is a relief. 😇😇

glass you like the build. 😍

Evening guys. It’s been a busy old week. Work has been relentless but I did manage a little time over the weekend to push this big lady over the line. Well almost. 🤪

Here let me explain.

Radio aerial added.

49014041813_b10c02d367_b.jpg

I drilled a hole and popped through some  EZ Line.

49014041803_9d36ca0b4d_b.jpg

As you can see in that last shot the canopy is fitted. I even built the handles, inside and out.

49014774037_5924e84a69_b.jpg

i has to prop it here to dry but this shot is better to see the work. 😇

49014773822_7b1ac3ddae_b.jpg

I drilled out the tail and fitted the rear radio spike made with plastic rod.

49014773957_6ffd35ae43_b.jpg

The rear view got some foil added to make the mirror too.

49014044888_215be4188a_b.jpg

I popped down to make a brew and caught this shot in the corner of my eye. Modellers dream. Soft radio 6 in the back ground and a warm workbench. Bliss. 😇😇

49014045178_e96ef856a4_b.jpg

The eagle eyed among you will have noticed in the last pic that the nose is indeed on. I however didn’t take any pics. 😂🤣🤪 I’ll save that for the final post.

I was tidying up the bench, the ritual I do after every build in raiment for the next and I found this.

49014819737_995ee7581b_b.jpg

the oil cap I lost months ago. 🤨 It seems the carpet monster has been sick. 😂

The bench is all clear now as you can tell from the newly turned over cutting matt.

I nearly forgot about the gun bays so I managed to pop them off without causing too much trouble. Guess what I found??? 🤪😩🤪😩🤪😩

49014091448_369918e7a9_b.jpg

Doh!! Totally forgot to do anything to the underside. 🤪 not even fixed the pin marks.  Oh mannnnnnn. So they got sanded and primed.

49014045033_f25c770820_b.jpg

Just gotta paint ‘em weather ‘em , fit the wire and we should be done.

Being a eager beaver I have started something new. Here.

it’s something I be wanted to try out for a while and There will most likely be some cool painting and ROBOTS!!!! Or kind of robots?!🤣 if you’re willing to tag along I’d be glad for the company. 🥰.

I’ll get the big lady finished and RFI her and the tank and the Torino too.

Thanks for all the hurri love.
see you on this side or tother.

Johnny.

Mikes models is good but is more an rc specialist. I did hoover up a lot in the Ian Allen sale. Gutted it has gone.  I’m also gutted as in past few years E.D models in Solihull has gone, Bobs Models has gone and now Ian Allen has gone but will check out Tornado models. Will check out the 109 but mine will nowhere near be as good as the hurricane!

I wanted to get to Ian Allen before it closed but didn’t get chance, it’s a shame so many close, my home town has pretty much nothing now! Fortunately there’s a good shop where I work. I always try and visit a shop if I’m in a different city but inevitably there either isn’t one or I get there and it’s stopped trading.

It was a good shop and I used to get war games materials from there. When I got back into modelling it wasn’t long until it closed.

Am loving the work on this Hurricane though and the attention to detail.

Yes it is a shame that our shops are vanishing. I do make use of them rather than buy on the internet to keep them going. 😇 Mike from “Tornado” is from Ian Allen so you’ll see some old faces. 😍

as for the 109, it’s a great kit and my mistake I have that in the stash, I built the Messerchmit . You’ll do a great job I’m sure. Post on here when you start or tag me in. I’d love to tag along if I may. 😀

Also waiting for the RFI! Still, I'm somewhat sad because it was such a pleasure to follow this build.

You almost succeed to make me like a hurri more than a spit ...almost.

What's next?

Thanks Pat. I’ll still do a closing post before she’s done. I’m doing something way outside of my comfort zone next. The thread is linked a post or two ago. It’s going to be a lot of new paint techniques  going on.  Just bought some Vellejo black primer. 🥳 what do people thin that with?

Thanks. She’s been fun to build. Two more 1/24s in the stash. 🙌

Looking forward to seeing her in RFI.

She has been a most enjoyable thread.

Simon.

I know!  “If it wasn’t screwed on” and all that. 🤪🤣

Glad you have had fun. Join along on the new one if you fancy. 🙌

Sorry, I don't use Vallejo primer but Stynylrez so I can't tell for sure. For Vallejo metal colors and Model air I use Vallejo's proprietary airbrush thinner (ref. 71161/71361 the only difference being the bottle's size).

I use Vallejo Grey Primer, and thin it with an Italian equivalent of Future/Klear. HTH

Great stuff Johnny. Always am impressed with your style. In due time I'll post some of the projects I have in store. May not be as detailed as your but will give it a go. Oh and you found that filler cap. Go figure, it couldn't have raised a flag and say I'M HERE!!!

Aww thanks Geoff, very kind of you to say.

Lovely!

One small thing, and I'm no expert so I stand to be corrected, but shouldn't the external canopy handle be on the left side?

Ian

I hope not. I put it on the side of the break out panel. Is that Wrong? 😫

I’m thinking you might be right. 😭

Hey Johnny

Great work on your Hurricane mate - you've managed to achieve a lovely finish and the levels of detail you've added to the kit are fabulous.

Cheers buddy and I genuinely can't wait to see her in the RFI.
