Well done. I take it that these are the original Airfix decals? (Can't imagine that there's much in the way of AM decals for 1/24 Hurricanes?). Getting there!! SD Thanks. Yes the originals. I realise they’re not quite the right size but I’m happy with them. SaminCam
This looks awesome Jonny! it's huge as well - the picture with you holding the prop for painting made me double take. How do you find it switching between scales? I've only ever touched 1/72...
John Masters
I don't know what is more impressive...your modelling skills, or when I see it in your hand I realize the model is probably bigger than your head! Really an astounding museum piece if there ever was one. What will happen to it when you're done?
mustang1989
This looks like an EPIC build. I've built one 1/24 scale build but don't think I'll build any more because of their size and my display space.
The Spadgent
Hello friends. Hope you have all had a splendid weekend. Over the past week the hurri has headed steadily toward the finish line. I do hope you’re sitting comfortably s this one a bit of a doosie. 🥳😍 first up the exhausts got a variation coat. The next step was to finish the bits n bobs. The canopy got the painted. The props got masked and sprayed too. The UC got some sky action. just about right on the pre shade. 😍 everything else seemed to get painted all of a sudden. The tyres needed looking at. Not a lot of people like the rubber wheels but I actually like em. So some sanding and a blob of paint got ‘em ready to go. The red and black areas needed masking so you know what. yup!! Mask mojo. 🤩🤩🤩🤩 guys going to have to cut this Short for a bit. I’ll post up later. I have to spent some time with the Milo. film night. 👍🥳 thanks for understanding. See y’all in an hour or two.. The Spadgent
Right oh. Aladdin with Will Smith. Not bad actually, but enough of that and more of this. 🥰 where were we? Oh yes masking. I know She looks a bit funny but you know how it is. 😂 Red gun area and none slip played done after a few coats of chipping fluid. While that dried three last few things got painted : legs, wheels, aerials etc. Right that’s enough of that! Masks off. 🙃 woot! All good, no over spray or crazyness. Then some mild chipping took place. and on the anti slip. Then another gloss coat. Unfortunately during the week I was lured back to my old love of video games. 😍😍😍 Saturday was interesting. 🖤🎃 On top of playing spooky games I got some deck tan, really thinned down sprayed on to blend everything together. what do you mean??? There on the wing. Oh blimey.... can you see it now? Super subtle but it really brings the whole lot together before a Flory. SPLAT!!!!! Did someone mention Flory. 😜 nice!!!! Some marmite on these too. And not forgetting these. sky side got some love also. 🖤 The Flory was airbrushed on this time as she was sooooooo BIG! My Flory is getting old now so some water was added to thin it down. The top wins looked like this close up. eeeeeeek. 😱😱😱😱😱 the panels got a good grot up too. After much....... much drying I could eventually start the mammoth task of mopping off. an old sock saw most of the work through. Then more knocking back. And in the middle. ❤️ And the top end. None too shabby. And a bit closer. at this point Halloween decorations got put up. The house is now covered in horror for the next week or so. 🖤🎃👻🤪 This took us up to Saturday. Today also saw more plastic work but I’m so tired now that it’ll just have to wait. I’ll post up tomorrow. Thanks guys for popping in. Hope you’re enjoying the hurricane madness. Happy modelling chums. Johnny eyes wide shut. 😴😴😴

CedB
Johnny it never ceases to amaze me how you produce a perfect finish, then cover it in Flory and, somehow, make it better! Great stuff, she's looking amazing 1
Bigdave22014
Outstanding work as always Johnny Spooky. Weren't the red gun panels actually doped material that were stuck on to stop weather/objects getting in before they needed to be fired? If so, would there have been the paint wear that you have done so well?

The Spadgent
Yes @Bigdave22014 looks like you’re right. I’ll fix that. I has a plan. 😍😇
The Spadgent
Any road. Before the plan let’s finish the post shall we. 😇😇😇😇😇 Thanks for the lovely comments and for being patient. 🤩 After that it was time for the dull coat. and some nice natural light. 🌞 shes looking just how I want now. ❤️ apart from those gun covers. 😱😔🤪 The UC covers got some love while the varnish dried. And the pins. The little target thing needed it’s mail taken off. ppppuuuuuuullllllllllll. Pop! nice! The prop got a top coat in natural light. And some metal madness. I did this boy with Tamiya weather powders. By this time the top was dry so I did the other. (What’s this @CedB) 🤣 A dead on of........... sorry. Any way she Is making me happy at every step now. ❤️ The hubs got added to the tyres. The canopy got rubbed down. Then masks removed. phew!! 😅😅 The rest of the masking slowly came away revealing that I hadn’t borked anything while painting the big bits. Some of the panel cover hoops I added came off but I fixed them with some rocket glue. 👌🤩 The UC got assembled. and weathered tyres using Tamiya weathering pigments. Im really happy with that. 😇👍🙌 The little fella got some love as well. Excited as I was I tried to get her up on her pins. Try as I might they wouldn’t stay put, so I checked Gerry’s book and guess what I saw?? Can you guess? Yes that’s right. bugger!!!! Missed a bit. 😂🤣😴😂🤣 That explains a lot. I’ll need to clean those and send em through the wringer. the light I lost I tried to re make. too big. So I used some of that crystal klear stuff. fingers crossed for that one. 🤞🤞🤞 I scratched a rear view and took this blurry photo. Then glued the exhausts in place. At long last.... 🖤🖤🖤 And that as they say is that. I said it was a big update. 🥳 Thanks you all so much for all your comments and help on this. She’s really getting there now. Hopefully this weekend? I have two RFI’s to do too. The little Tank and the Torino. So looks like I’m in for a mammoth photo sesh. So until then. Take care and as always, Happy Modelling kids. Spookytooth
Looking grand there Johnny . The doped fabric was there to keep the guns from freezing up, until they had sussed out the heating to them. Simon.
f111guru
Fantastic work on the Hurricane thus far Johnny. Great effects on the War weary wear and tear on the surface paint. one of the few
Looking absolutely brilliant. I have always loved the Airfix Hurricane, and i prefer it to the more modern Trumpeter kit. One of the details missed out by Airfix however is the little drain hole on the bottom panel under the nose. It`s an easy fix but still an irritating omission !.
