The Spadgent
Thanks @Troy Smith I’ll go through all that and make sure I get my markings right. 🤞 I did manage to get some of the hurricane done over the weekend, not quite what I had in mind but it’s all good. here’s what happened. The tail got glued. I began to get everything ready for some sweet paint action when I saw this. and this. then I figured that I need to sort out the lights before I do anything else. 🤔 This is what we have off the bat. it’s not great but I don’t want to go and saw it out to get the struts in. So I’m thinking as it’s behind glass I could do some smoke and mirrors magic and add detail without any major Dexter action. here’s the clear part fitted. pretty good really but I’ll add trim around that to hide the seams. The wing tip is also lacking somewhat. And with the clear part. I found these from the spare box and began making the wrong lights. Looking good. Also the landing lights got some internals made from plastic rod and plastic card. That should look good with some paint magic. 👌 The lights themselves got painted. I was going to hand paint but then decided to spray instead so masking and plastic sheet to the rescue. 💪 Psssssssssssssss. And e have green bits. 😇 I punched out some little discs of pie dish for the reflectors. And avengers assemble! I was really happy with those right up until the point where the clear part didn’t fit over everything. 😔🥴😭 oh well. so not disheartened I continued with the landing lights. And tother side. Looks good to me do the clear parts got glued with gators grip and the room got made from plastic card. And the lower half glued. I trapped the under side while it set over night. In between boys and bobs I cut the panels to size. And painted. I’ll tape them together for painting the camo. 🤩 I also decided to remove the molded wire on the UC. I crept the holders though. I’ll add lead wire later on. That was it for the weekend but I had a little time tonight to complete the trim. Mask up and paint the underside sky. that needs a gloss finish to settle it in with the rest. I’ll sort the top lights next then fingers crossed for camo. Thanks for all your input guys it’s really appreciated. Hope you all had a splendid weekend, I’ll try and catch up with everyone’s build over the next few days. Take care and as always. Happy modeling. 😃😃 John.

Johnny Tip
Darn it, I could have made that hint about the landing lights! but I am always so impressed with your work I simply didn't expect you to miss that, Johnny. And anyway, you got it corrected in a way nobody will know it was added at very late point. Except us followers, of course. Must. Get. Own. House. With. Enough. Room. To. Start. Own. The Spadgent
Good evening. I’m sitting in front of a roaring fire on a rainy Thursday night feeling a bit grotty with a warm dog on my lap. Nothing doing but an update and some BM action and maybe a catch up on the apprentice from last night. 🤪 well here goes. First up we have edge masking. I found out from @Procopius that you can get 40mm Tamiya tape. I found this out a little too late but I ordered some anyhow. 😇 thanks Edward. I covered the main bits with plastic. I then mixed up some of the raf green and the mr colour brown I used on the Lanc In the brush with quite a bit of thinner. Then added a little black and went at it. and some more. That was working for me so when done I mixed in quite a lot of white. This was then added to the mid points. I’m looking this. fingers crossed that should world lovely as a base coat. Here’s the other wing. and the tail. oh and not forgetting the panels. The light colour is more cream than white, so for a final pass I added pure white to the pot and thinner it right down and hit the centers. Ok. That’s enough of that. I’ll let it all sink in and go with a free hand camo to start them mask. Brown or green first? 🙂🙃🙂 Thanks for popping in guys. I wonder if wine would make me feel better? 🤔 Hope you’re all having a lovely week. johnny. 🙌🍷 ps. The wing tip lights are done too. Forgot to take a pic before masks. You’ll just have to wait. 🤪 Edited October 6, 2019 by The Spadgent

spartacus2000
Hi Jonny great gob . Your preshading is very simlar to mine brown or green ? Frist brown very thinned 80/90% so you can controll exactly the effect,3-4 coat the let dry a night so you can verify the color coverage (to add color you are always in time). For post use some drop of chocolate brown very dilued around pannel edge and base + some drop sail color or similar for center pannel 90% thinnned no more than 2 coat every time: is a long and tedious steps but give satisfaction. Cheers Edited October 3, 2019 by spartacus2000

Cheers I know right. 🙌 I pawed over the mig painting books for quite some time a year or two ago. I’ve loved this look ever since the Tamiya year books of the 80s. Thanks for the hints. It’s pretty much what I did with the Lanc. I don’t tend to dark post shade if I have done a pre shade. But you can always learn new stuff right. 😇🙌
The Spadgent
Good afternoon. 😀 it’s been quite a pleasant weekend here at castle spadgent. Apart from the sad news of Ginger bakers passing this morning. 😔 most of yesterday was spent on chores around the house. can you spot what the chickens new dust bath shelter is made from? also watched this. bitter sweet and had me in floods of tears at the end. 😭 wonderful movie. On top of all this I managed some plastic action. Hey @Procopius Look what arrived. 🤩🤩 Thanks for the tip. I’ll use the crap out of that later. first though I sprayed the panels silver like @Troy Smith originally suggested. I’ll post shade and knock them back later. By the way two coats of vallejo extreme metal looks ace! 🥳 That all got trapped together and some extra padding added. So on to the main course. I have done this before in different ways but decided to try out @spartacus2000 super watered down method. Here’s pass one. what do you mean? There on the wing. 🤪 then pass two. 🤔 I can see the appeal but this wasn’t working for me. This was a 80% split with thinners. So I went to my usual camo 3 to 1 ratio of paint and thinner. I guess that’s 33.333333% split. that have me a slightly better coverage. I decided to stick with that adding light coats until I was happy. Closer. Not forgetting the nose panels. That was getting more where I wanted. took a few hours, with stops in between to cook breakfast for the kids and zom over to my wife’s office to do some boring I.T related gubbins. 🙈 After drying I couldn’t resist making up for the second bit. I couldn’t decide about the squadron putty so I stick to blu tac for now. Wwoorrmmss. aaaaand at last the huge Tamiya tape. 😍 This stuff is great. 😇🙌 eventually we arrived here. I has to pop back to the office to check All was well, which is where I am now trying to update windows on an old windows 7 machine. 😭😢🤪 well fingers crossed I’ll get to the green later on. Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Thanks for dropping by. All the best and as always, Happy Modelling. Johnny brown paint.

giemme
Off to a great start with camo painting, Johnny! Not sure what are the advantages of heavily thinned paint when you have to lay down base coats - your own method looks just appropriate to me Ciao
Howlindawg
I'm curious as to how the transition point between brown and green is going to look with what is basically a translucent top coat. Looking forward to seeing it with the green added but so far it looks great!
