As it's Sunday morning I guess you've already departed. What comp is it by the way, County, AFA Section, Inter Club? What weapon are you fighting? I see for the gun Bay the MGs, ammo boxes and ammunition feeds are there and the cartridge chutes. I cannot see anything about the gun control (firing mechanism), were they fired electrically or hydraulically? Is there cabling or piping that needs to go into the bay as well? Thanks for the well wishes. It was the Shropshire open in Much Wenlock. Apparently it’s a nice ease in to competitions. “Apparently”😬 I fight Foil by the way. 👌 As for the gun bays they look quite comprehensive, not sure how everything works but Mr Gainsborough added some pipe work that I will too but not too much needs scratching. Just a lot of tidy up and filling. 🙃 On 7/14/2019 at 11:03 AM, Spookytooth said: All looking very nice there Johnny. Good luck with the gun bays. I am sure that you will work some magic on those. The Spadgent
Hi guys. It’s been a really, really busy couple of weeks. During the fencing comp the wife calls to tell me that the red mite infestation from the hens that I was getting under control had spread to the house via the dog. 😬😦🐛. This little piece of good fortune coupled with Milo’s School appeal aaaaand both kids breaking up for the summer aaaaaaaaand having to figure out how to fit a 100w Solar panel to the van so we can go off grid. Means that not much hurricane action has taken place and I really haven’t had time to keep up with all your builds but as the mites have now gone and the appeal is over ( no answer as yet ) and the panel is installed and the kids are happily broken up I can get back to it. A little bit any way. here’s me fencing. I’m on the right. I didn’t do very well, last as it happens but I had fun and even won a few. 🤺😇 Any way back to why you’re here, the Hurricane. It’s time the pit got fitted into the halves. Not 100% sure how to go about this so I decided to glue the rear in first and button her up slowly. After that had dried over night I set about gluing the front section. this really needed a good squeeze and a wedge made so I could glue the first frame section. This got left to dry over night and I moved onto the tip. ooooh pegs, how exciting. 😂🤫🙃 you can see by the above shot how the pipe @(ex)Sgtrafman mentioned doesn’t quite fit. But you won’t see it from this angle so I’m not worried. After that had dried I went about dry fitting the side panels and guess what? Not a great fit. 😳😦 So I figured if I dry fitted the wings that might pull everything into shape. which it did a little. The pegs fit the holes and I might be able to get them in but it’s not going to be as easy as the Messerschmitt . Here’s one more shot. BIG innit. 😛 look at her bottom. can’t wait to get some paint on that! 🤗 Now before any of that can be done I need to tackle this. how on earth are you meant to get this glued? Nothing like a butt joint on a flimsy frame section that’s under stress is there. 😬 I initially thought about drilling and adding a mid core. The drill bit however was this big. and even after drilling I couldn’t fit a core that worked so here’s what I did. I went all old school and glued with TET and held it together with my hands. 😂 after a while it started to goop up so I added masking tape to hold it in place with a coffee stirrer splint to keep it all straight. After a short time I had cut some paper thin plasticard strip bits to bridge the join section. This grips almost instantly with TET so they were added to strengthen the joint. I did this front, top, back and undersides. this will need a tidy and a paint but I’m happy with the structure. 👍😇 While that was put to one side I popped these bits off. and began the huge tidy up task. Many many pin Mars were filled and sanded out. That’s better. If you do attempt this beware that the sections are unique to each side. I accidentally tried to fit the walls to the wrong side but they didn’t fit. As seen here. you can see which end you need to glue the walls in by the missing detail seen below. be sure to dry fit these bits to make sure you have the right wall in the right place. 🙃 The guns were super messy too. Lots of flash and joins. Here are the first four added and dry fitted. The detail once tidy is really nice. There is a lot of sanding and tidy left to do as well as some scratch plumbing but they are definitely getting there. 😇🥳🙌 That’s it for now. Thanks for looking in, I’ll catch up with your builds over the next few days and get back on track. Hope you’re all having a great week. Take care and as always. Happy Modeling. Johnny. 🌪 Edited July 22, 2019 by The Spadgent

The Spadgent
Hya. A lovely camping trip in the New Forest was had by all, especially Zero. Handsome sod. A few sporadic sittings at the bench and a brief respite before we set off for a Music Festival tomorrow sees the hurri a few steps forward. Let’s begin shall we. 🌭 I did a bit of a dry fit of the gun bay before any painting. I’ll need to clean up that thar hole and add some clips too. All the bits finally got tidied of flash. everything got primed and the guns got a shot of Tamiya black. I found this nice internal shot of the gun bay. Thanks to whoever took it. but I want my one to look more like this. I think this one is from @Troy Smith so now the colour scheme is set I have decided to follow Gerry and add the panel at the back with the pneumatic tubing? I used plasticard and lead wire. Rrrrrright paint. base coat of silver. And the rest. 🥰 I do hate the way I can’t pre shade silver so a smoke pass gets me a post shade going on. Bottom one done. 🥳 subtle but enough for a good base. i did this on everything else silver too. Then Flory. ooooh I’m liking this. 😉 I’ll add some brass to the bullets later. All that needs rubbing back with a cotton bud. Before that the guns need a dry brush. 😇 and the top. I also added some Tamiya black wash to make em POP. Here are some of the others. All knocked back the Flory so I could start bringing these together. I wired in the back scratch panel and began to glue things. I loves gluing things me. And another angle. beginning to look the part. I had to let the glue dry so this is where it’s left for now. As I mentioned we’re off camping at a festival over this weekend as of tomorrow. Mmmmm wind and rain! 🌧😮🌬 keep everything crossed eh. Thanks for popping in. Catch y’all in a few days. Johnny. 🏕

Troy Smith
You mentioned me.... the gun bays seemed to have stayed pretty clean Armourers at work. by Etienne du Plessis, on Flickr Burnt out Hurricane. by Etienne du Plessis, on Flickr note the guns are pretty dark a good tip is paint with an appropriate base colour, and then buff with graphite powder, if you sand a soft pencil 4B-6B on sandpaper, and use a cut down brush to pick up, rubbed over catches the highlights and does a decent job of showing the finish, many guns were had a Parkerised finish, the gun-blue The tommy gun here is Tamiya XF-85 tyre black (a very dark blue -grey) buffed over with graphite S8000004 by losethekibble, on Flickr This a 1/32nd figure, so it's a quite an enlargement HTH T 3

As mentioned I’m going for the pic mentioned in the post so not too clean not too dirty. I didn’t tip coat yet so I’ll knock back some of the Flory a tad more if it suits. As for the silver dry brush I used Tamiya weather powder instead of pencil, this will darken with a top coat as always is the case hence the slightly heavy application. Thanks again for any help. 🤗 38 minutes ago, f111guru said: Outstanding progress on the gun bays. The shading does the kit or any kit for that matter justice. Ron VanDerwarker Thanks Ron.
