Here I am. Rock you like a hurricane (are you ready, baby?) The Airfix Hurricane 1/24

Recommended Posts

Pardon my saying ( and It's about 45 years since I built the 1/24 Hurricane) but are the OOB plug leads on the engine not a little crude in comparison with the rest of the fantastic quality of this build so far?

See what you mean. 🤔 I thought they were pipes. I wonder what I can do about it. Leave it with me. 🤗

Thin solder?

Ian

I’ve twisted two 0.3 mm lead wires on the last pic. I think it looks better. Might run with it. Btw how thin does solder get? I figured 0.3 is pretty thin. 🤔

Hmmm, looking at images on the Interweb, the ignition lead to the spark plug run in a braided cable, so you wouldn't see the cable twist, also the spark plug cap went through 90°.   I think you need a thicker smooth wire, if you know what I mean...  Do you have electrical wire at home you can strip the insulation from?

Oh for heavens sake. 😑 I twisted to make it look braided. (Give texture) as the smooth one looked odd. To be fair I like it. Might paint to see if it masks the “twist” a little.  Modelling eh! 🤤

I quite like that?

Edit!!!

so I ripped em off and added some single lead textured by squeezing between pliers.

Hey you lot, hope you’re having a great weekend. 😍

There has been some progress, not a lot but we are a step closer to getting that darn engine buttoned away. It’s my first and Milo’s umpteenth fencing comp tomorrow so no action until next week but here is what happened this far. 😇

After the longer than expected “sparkplugwire-gate” I moved onto the side walls.  Here’s the break out panel glued in place.  (I’m having it in place) with a dry fit of the seat section.

48275668846_5211f0845b_b.jpg

I was going to use Letraset for the wordage but it was so small I painted some black squiggles that seem to suffice. I also added maps. 😇

I decided to glue in the IP. It needed some trimming but eventually squeezed in.

48275667891_4d35e49451_b.jpg

That needs to dry so I can get this bad boy buttoned up. Next up is to pin all of the disparate office parts together.

48275669221_173a04f046_b.jpg

tank and seat all glued and held.

48275670131_266af49dc7_b.jpg

so glad to get this all together. 🥳

48275751237_5e8c2246ef_b.jpg

one more shot. Because I’m glad it’s nearly done and I’m super happy that it all fitted. 🤗 after this I did some glueing, I loves glueing me. 🙌

48275750522_d7f1ac011e_b.jpg

Look at the size of that tail bit. “Ruddah” mahoosive! Can’t wait to paint that.

48275670941_5c2c12e3bb_b.jpg

the control sections got popped together too. 😇

Next up will be this.

48275749462_31e3327864_b.jpg

easy right. 🤔 look how easy it loooo😳

48275750492_d0d01612b0_b.jpg

oh 😳🤪 right then looks like I have my work cut out. 😂🤣

I left it there. As we have an early start.

Thanks for popping in. See you all next time.

All the best and as always Happy Modeling.

Good luck for you Fencing comp Johnny.  As it's Sunday morning I guess you've already departed.  What comp is it by the way, County, AFA Section, Inter Club?  What weapon are you fighting?

I see for the gun Bay the MGs, ammo boxes and ammunition feeds are there and the cartridge chutes.  I cannot see anything about the gun control (firing mechanism), were they fired electrically or hydraulically?  Is there cabling or piping that needs to go into the bay as well?
