Here I am. Rock you like a hurricane (are you ready, baby?) The Airfix Hurricane 1/24

Recommended Posts

Ah the nostalgia.

Yeah the Hurri was definately one of the better old kits.

Though I personally think the Stuka was the best that Airfix did back in the day.

Right out of the box that one looks teriffic.

You seem to be moving right along with this build.

I only wish I could knock 'em out, but I get so bogged down with all the little fidly bits.

Something this big really needs all the fiddly bits too doesn't it?

Very nice.

Let's see some more!

Steady progress there, John!

Lots of fiddly bits to deal with, you did very well!

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio. I’m loving the little bits but I can’t wait to get to the outside bits. 😊

All looking very sharp inside, and out Johnny.

The curse of the ejector pins eh, bleedin things.

Simon.

Thanks and I really can’t believe how many there are. 😳

Like that a lot. It seems like the Hurricane is the best of the "old gen" 1/24 kits?

Regards,

Adrian

It’s better than the Messerschmitt. At least it has wheel wells. 🤪

It’s a great kit so far. I really need the Stuka in my life but I need to finish kits first. 🤔 and the fiddly bits are the best bits. 🥳 Thanks for all the lovely comments. 🤗

Hey! Not a great deal done but it’s going to be busy over the next few days / weeks so I’m going to post while I can.

I couldn’t resist @(ex)Sgtrafman‘s starter thing on the engine frame that I missed so I decided to add it too. 🤩

48128459056_8d07cf457d_b.jpg

I built all the little strut parts and the sprockets from cut up left over parts and plasticard.

Then I added the chains from lead wire and obvs painted everything too. 😇

48128459161_99bca342be_b.jpg

Right onto the IP. 👌 The Decal card got glued to the clear part and popped onto the main panel.

48128548242_403292bb30_b.jpg

might need a trim. 🤣

48128547707_8cca24efd1_b.jpg

trimmed. 😊and glued the back on. Clamps ahoy!

then the side looked a bit like a liquorice allsort.😬

48128548107_89c6b1ef29_b.jpg

So I filled it.

48128458286_0149859ce3_b.jpg

that needs to dry now. 🥳

I said short. 🤗 Thanks for dropping by.

hope you’re all having a fab week.

Johnny.

Oh nearly forgot the Klear dried ...erm Clear. 😀🙌 Check the compass.

Sorry once again for the lack of updates. I have many birthdays and other life things STILL going on. Fingers crossed it’ll calm down soon. 🤪

I’m late to the party - but keen to sneak in now :)

Great choice Johnny.  Such a reminder of childhood.  A classic Airfix 1/24 kit and a Gerald Scarborough book!  Got to love it.

Still got my 1970’s copies.......

I tried soooo hard with the Hurricane..........but ‘twas still a bit of a cackhanded mess :)

Love what you’ve done so far.  Great painting and finishing (of course.....)

Really nice to have you aboard sir. I hope I can bring back those child hood memories. 😊 I have already done the Messerschmitt using Gerald’s book and now this one. I must admit the black and whites don’t help. 🤣 it’s a wonderful reference and companion to the build however, nothing like building a bit then sitting in my little chesterfield and reading how Mr Scarborough would have done it. 👨‍🦰. I’d like the Stuka at some point. Did he only do those four books?

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

Johnny.

Hey you lot. Hope you’re all having a sunny funny weekend. 😇🌞

Amongst the many things stopping me modeling I managed a little modeling. Get me. 🕺

I eventually managed to lay down the interior green.

48225021227_86bbcb8c77_b.jpg

And the outer.

48225021387_a74111ea58_b.jpg

Aaaaand tother side.

48225013252_b9fbf15a64_b.jpg

The other side of the tank got envious too.

48225012332_edf48c4380_b.jpg

I began to spray the knock out hatch when I noticed I hadn’t pre shaded so. Psssst.

48224965051_ac727f0de9_b.jpg

Oh and this odd bit needs going in.

48224955786_05e5bcb204_b.jpg

you’ll never see it so I’ll give it a black blast just in case.

All the little bits got primed.

48225012902_9b1c59ca6a_b.jpg

I also did the spare tank brick red and glossed ready for some Flory action.

48225014347_a8ed1b4cab_b.jpg

The bit of Merlin engine I pilfered from the Cornwall spitfire garden needs to be squirreled away.🐿

48225021067_10920a4232_b.jpg

seems like a good spot.

48224956626_d7499ed134_b.jpg

While all that was drying I painted some pith helmets for the boys end of school show.

48224965821_5205efaef7_b.jpg

he is doing the Monty Python fish slapping dance with his friend. 🤣🤪🐟

Any hoo back to the hurri. I Floried the bits that needed it and did various chores while they dried and “of course” forgot to take snaps. 🤔 the IP got touched up.

48225022477_3dfc0355f3_b.jpg 48225020907_73457c1da4_b.jpg

the tank looks good with a first weather pass.

48225021077_709ff4d6df_b.jpg

more to come. 🥳

First pass on the break out panel.

48224963651_b175a92aba_b.jpg

needs highlights and maps. Possibly text too? ☺️

Some of the last controls got added too.

48224958261_deeed65018_b.jpg

I have some Flory to rub out on the other panels but it’s getting late and my eyes don’t work so with that I’ll call it a night.

Hope you’re all still enjoying the build.

all the best and as always.

Happy modeling.

Johnny. 🌪
