badger
Morning All Well, after a weekend of pondering, I'm still stuck as to what to build for this GB. I have the following candidates: 1. Prototype Sturmtiger - nice, easy Trumpeter build with a small amount of detailing. 2. Gruppe Fehrmann Hybrid Tiger 1 - more involved Dragon kit that needs very patchy zimmerit and mild detailing 3. King Tiger - horribly basic Trumpeter kit that is having a resin replacement turret and hull (with zimmerit) and some heavy detailing 4. Ferdinand SPG - Trumpter build - almost oob 5. Bergepanzer Tiger (P) - Dragon kit (may have to check 25% built requirement), with eduard etched set. If there are any preferences please post below. I'll confirm the winning choice next Saturday. Oh and no I'm not going to build them all 😝 All the best Ben Edited May 18, 2019 by badger

I want to build them all eventually so I don't mind which I do. All the best Ben

Ozzy
Welcome Badger I would plum for option 4, although I would call it a Tank destroyer rather than a SPG.
Robert Stuart
Given those options @badger, I'd say Ferdinand too - if you'd had the Elefant, that would have been my prefered option, but the earlier mod is good.
badger
Thanks all - looks like the Ferdinand is winning hands down so far. I agree - it should probably called a tank destroyer rather than an SPG. I also have the Elefant but that's way over 25% built. This is fun All the best Ben
SleeperService
I'll support the unusual Either 4 or 5 appeals to me. If doing the BergeTiger be aware that only 653 Battalion got them. 654 had turned over their survivors before they arrived as far as I can tell.

Foxbat
Another vote here for the Ferdinand. It will be good for my baby one to have company. Andy
badger
Thanks for all the votes chaps. Unless there's a sudden flurry of votes it looks like the Ferdinand is going to get built All the best Ben

AVID FAN - oh sorry that is a quote from a Hannibal Lector film - LOYAL FAN of brilliant 1/72 work Steve Hi Steve I'll just change the thread name I think. Kudos on the quote - Seen most of the lector films (and read the books) but didn't think much of the tv series. All the best Ben
badger
Just excavated the Ferdinand kit from the stash and discovered I've part started it (no recollection whatsoever of this) but it's way under the 25% threshold, especially as I discovered an eduard etch set with it (actually for the dragon elefant) that should provide some useful bits (grilles, non slip tread for fenders, etc). Until tomorrow All the best Ben

badger
Well with a landslide victory I will be building the Ferdinand! Thanks to all who helped me decide. All the best Ben
badger
Breaking News!! I've decided to "expand" this project a little and display the Ferdinand as broken down during the Kursk battle, having shed a track. This lends itself nicely to a small diorama so watch this space as I have a cunning plan to further reduce the stash! All the best Ben
badger
Time for an update. I've not done any modelling this weekend as been sorting the stash to try and rehome some of the kits I'll never build. I have however planned out how I want this to look. First up this is the starting point of the Ferdinand. I've previously attached the fenders, hull sides, top plate and nose - 6 parts in total onto the lower hull. Hopefully this is under the 25% threshold. I've got the obligatory metal barrel and an etch set (actually for the Dragon Elefant, but I'm hoping bits of it will be useful). To go with it (but not part of this GB), is this rather nice Soviet Gaz AAA truck made by Komintern. I've partially built this already but have recently acquired an etch set for it and have some resin wheels on order. Finally this is how I plan on displaying them - the idea is to have the Ferdinand broken down (as many of them did), having shed a track. The Gaz will be loaded with ammo boxes and stopped while the crew take a cigarette break and view the abandoned tank. I've had half an hour on the Ferdinand tonight and gotten the main superstructure assembled which went together quite nicely. Not a lot of progress, but a start.
