Spot of the Day Part 3

Recommended Posts

In Ripon this afty a very tidy 2 door Citreon Saxo on a W plate. Not seen one of those in years and couldn't believe how small it was!

Then saw a lovely Mk2 Escort in what looked to be full rally spec complete with a front bumper full of spot lamps, roll cage and stickers. Gave the driver a thumbs up as i passed and he gave me a big grin in return!

Regards,

Steve

There is a well-preserved Peugeot 106 GTi (or something sporty at any rate) that lives in one of the roads near me.  I agree they are astonishingly small by current standards.

Next door have had a gold Saxo visiting during the week. a 51 plate. To think I used to teach in 106s ( I kept my 740 estate as a dog transporter. Could have put the 106 in the tailgate).

I passed my driving test in a Peugeot 106 (1.1 petrol XN Graduate)

It always surprises me how close you can get to the action with these movements !
Thanks for looking , Gary.

I've just seen a convoy of aircooled VWs drive past the end of my road. First one I saw was a very orange 1970s Beetle, there were also two nice 1960s Beetles (one dark red, one navy blue) an olive green squareback and plenty of Type 2 busses, vans and campers.

One of those in 1/24 would be a challenge!

Apart from the 2CV/DS and the Renault 4,the only French cars i really love are any Saxo/VTS/VTR and 106/Gti they were fantastic and almost bulletproof....

Forgot to put this up, but saw this on my way home from work yesterday. I had to look it up, but it's listed as a 1937 Rover, obviously not as it left the factory!

Forgive the picture quality, this is taken off the dashcam.

Little bit of a haul today. A Fiat 135 soft top, hood down and moving, looked OK. And three Moggy Minors: a green van that is used as a publicity hoarding for a garage reasonably near me but is well presented, no reason to beleive they don't drive it around; a similar green saloon, but looking a bit mothy and a very nice looking blue Countryman with all the ash in place, 'J' suffix which I think would make it '70/'71.

What I'm fairly sure was a McLaren, probably a P1 from looking at pics on-line, rarer than rocking horse poop in this part of the world, best I've seen before was a Lambo Huracan over the summer. also pronbably not a local.

Any idea what the load was, it does look a bit nuggety. :)

I think it was some kind of electrical generator for a sub station . The docks it is leaving is Britain’s most inland port btw .

 Gary .

A few good sightings on my travels today.

A four-door, two-tone red and white Volvo 120-series "Amazon" (apparently they were only officially called that in Sweden as Volvo didn't register the name anywhere else).

A magenta Triumph Stag.

An MGB GT in that odd yellowy brown which would probably have suited it better if it were on rostyle rather than wire wheels.

A 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback in white with red stripes.  Is there some sort of law that says classic Mustangs must have stripes?

In Hampshire visiting family and some nice American iron about. Drop top Mustang (black no stripes!!), a Thunderbird in dark blue and another car I couldn't quite see as I drove past parked up in the Four Marks Travelodge car park. Then when sitting in the chip shop car park waiting for the missus to get the tea, a stunning sky blue fifties Ford F100 pickup, dropped on the floor on steelies with chrome hubcaps. He waited at the give way next to me and floored it to pull out onto the main road - and it sounded as good as it looked !!

Got a lift to Silverstone Classics a couple of years ago in a white '66 Mustang saloon - another one with no stripes :)

Kicking myself today though as I forgot to put the dashcam in coming back from Sainsburys. Coming the other way - a nice blue A-reg Sierra XR4i and no picture so you'll have to take my work for it ;) It's over a year since I last saw an XR4i.

I once had an opportunity to drive an XR4i.

What a wonderful drive it was.

The V6 bellow and what felt like phenomenal acceleration.

Handled well as well.

Very memorable.

So far, a Ford Capri MK 1 painted in blackboard paint (so it seemed) and a smart Ford Model A in shining brown/tan. Probably both going to the old Ford rally at the British Motor Museum.

On the way home from Hampshire this afternoon, two Mk4/5 Cortinas pulled over in a layby on the A34. One 4 door in what looked like Olympic Blue and a mild custom 2 door in a very nice dark metallic blue with 5 spoke alloys. 4 door had bonnet up so might have been having a bit of trouble....
