Spot of the Day Part 3

If it's genuine, I believe the slats in the front of the rear arch might make it a 930 S - of which there were only 33 made. So it would be worth a fair few quid.... (even more quids than the standard ones now fetch!)

Keith

Thanks Keith, I knew the slats were unusual. I wasn't sure if they were an option for ordinary 930s. I guess the plaque could have read "930 S"; it's not a 911 variant I'd heard of, but I like it.

I'm rather partial to a Lancia Fulvia.

Not 'arf! Especially if it has four spots across the front and "Lancia Italia" across a matt black bonnet! Used to be one in Edinburgh in the '70s like that, but I'm not at all sure it was a real ex-works.

A site visit to the West Country saw a lovely S1 E-type coupe ( personally I think a much better balanced looking design than the roadster), an XK120 (140?) roadster in a rather startling blue; then a convoy of supercars on the A303 Ferraris, Porsche and McLaren off somewhere together?  The Ferraris nearly fooled me as they weren’t red!

Jaguar interior, not sure what colour that is, a sort of pale grey/green.

I'm sure they'd call it sage or taupe or something equally silly which doesn't tell us what it actually is. That is a truly gorgeous E-type & I agree about the hard top on the open machine, squint a bit & you've got a Lite weight. :)

Coincidentally I followed one of these in gold on a B-plate down the A41 through Hendon this morning - this one looks in better condition though. Nice set of photos (and cars) - and is that a Rover 213/6 I can see lurking in the background? Can't remember when I last saw one of those.

Yes, it was an old Rover 213/6 also codenamed SD3 (IIRC).  I ought to have paid it more attention as it is unusual to see one.

Had a ride in one dressed up like that in the mid 70's - it wasn't a pukka works car but had been prepared to exactly the same spec and was an absolutely wonderful little thing! And funnily enough I was looking at Fulvias on Car and Classic yesterday after watching 'Harry's Garage' vid on his Zagato bodied car - now waaaay out of my price range!!

Driving back from the gym this morning, a Ferrari 550 or 575 (I can't tell them apart) drove past in the opposite direction.  It was red, which doesn't suit it, but still nice to see.

Yesterday on our local garage forecourt: A Mustard colour MGB GT with non-standard alloy wheels. Looked like a restpration job nearing completion.

Today while out for a walk, a black MGB GT looking immaculate.
I don't normally see one MGB (of any type) from one month (year?) to the next...

Cheers,

Alan.

A classic Fiat 500 in navy blue outside a local garage - too many people around to get a photo, sadly.  Then, whilst driving home, I was briefly followed by a D-reg Ford Capri, I think it was a Laser rather than a 2.8 injection but it sported an impressive array of spot lamps.  And does the Volvo 480 count?  I saw one today and can't remember the last time I saw one, oh and the red Toyota MR2 again in Sainsbury's car park.

Yesterday, in the parking lot of my local MOT/service guys. 'T' reg, so 1978-9, I think, silver Porsche 911, but with the flared arches and wide wheels. Coupe, not targa and the engine cover propped up with a length of wood! I'm not an expert on 911s, but would that make it an early 930? It's out of MoT, so probably in there for that and a bit of service. Not seen it around before.

Keep spotting, John, they're rare beasts now. Twice in the past I've done 1500 miles back up to Scotland and not seen one on the road in all that distance, although I did find about dozen of them at Chanonry Point - I'd stumbled across that year's "Highland Drive" without knowing it. They were just heading off, so no chance of a chat. Oh, and BTW  - no dolphins!

I've been doing some repair work on one of my classic Minis at Sleaford Mini Centre.

This rather nice Park Lane visited on Saturday.

And today, this 1966 Wolseley Hornet MkII arrived.  Although it looks a bit rough, the shell is sound, and all the important Hornet specific bits are in the back seat area.  It looks unmolested, and SMC will do it up a treat!

One of? How many do you have? One is too many for me...!! :)

I always liked the Hornet and Elf - would love to have the money to build a historic racecar out of one!

We have a total of four classic Minis in the family.  A 1979 Clubman saloon with a 1380 twin cam 16 valve engine, a 1980 Clubman estate (completely standard), a 1984 Mayfair with an MG Metro engine, Zeemax body kit, 13" alloys (now being used by eldest daughter as her daily drive), and a 1990 Mayfair with Mini 30 half-leather interior and a custom paint job, i.e. it's painted lilac, and is "senior management's" car.

It's enough to keep me very occupied in my retirement.  I nearly bought a Phoenix estate a few weeks ago, but I've nowhere to keep another!

Tell more please. Is this a Japper motor in a Mini shell? I recall at a mini 50th (?) rally locally a few years ago, a couple of extensively customised jobs with modern Japanese motors in them.

No, it's not a Japanese bike engine.  It's the BMW K1100 16v motorbike head on a modified A Series block with external belt drive for the cams.  It should be good for about 130bhp, once it's been run in and sorted on a rolling road.

It all just about fits inside the Clubman engine bay.

Thanks very much.  I've previously had Minis with 45DCOE, so I know what you mean.  The manifold on this is a four branch, and it's an absolute pain to juggle into place.  The conversion kit is by Specialist Components in Norfolk.

A couple of British classics spotted today; a two-seat Morgan in Old English White and what looked like a freshly restored Land Rover Series 1 in (very shiny) green.  I can't quite get my head around shiny Land Rovers, but if that's what owners want then they do look quite smart.

Hi all,

How time flies, almost been away for a year... Anyway, here's some shots taken a few months ago, this one's for the Widebody Bois.
