Far more interestingly, an Asquith Shire on a W-plate, although the condition was such that I suspect it was much newer. Mrs T shared a Y reg beige Metro with her sister when I first knew her. Andy J Posted January 4, 2020 Share Posted January 4, 2020 Today driving down the M42 south I got passed very quickly ( as I was driving a petrol tanker flat out 52mph! ) by a lime green Lamborghini Aventador closely followed by another Aventador followed by a Bugatti Veyron then two McLaren super cars I kid you not! I reckon they were showing off after they witnessed my lame attempt to overtake an Eddie Stobart truck which ended in failure! I regularly see the odd super car but five in a row is very rare. When I got back to work I jumped into my Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer ( or estate car as that's what it is ) and drove the first few miles home like Andy Schumacher then the excitement wore off and I limped home along the M6. Today I looked read the 1971 copy. Complaints therein included rust on brand new cars, notably British Leyland, It cost 14 pounds to replace a Cortina propshaft as the needle bearings were rubbish. A garage hand used a customers car for the weekend. It was okay though, they'd disconnected the speedo so the mileage didn't show. Used cars? How about a Mustang, 8000 miles, 1400 quid! A 3 litre Capri was about the same price. A year old Camaro was less! And there was a comparative MPG chart in the back. Not much there giving over 30MPG. Don’t want to stray to far off topic , but when I was at school in the 80s , I read Autocar magazine and I could reel off all the performance figures from road tests in the back of the mag , better than I could remember my school work ! Around town I'd be lucky to get 15 mpg, on a run about 20, but on a road rally it would be 6-7....!! But petrol (5 star!) was about 50p a gallon (yes, gallons in those days!!) Spiny Posted January 15, 2020 Share Posted January 15, 2020 Driving along the A41 through Hendon today, I noticed a gorgeous Ferrari 275 GTB in the Hendon Way Motors showroom window as I passed. I think that one is slightly out of my price range though, even if checking the website later did show it as POA I don't need to ask to know I'd need a spare couple of million to buy that one. 😄 Possibly yesterdays rarity is a bit closer to my budget - I got parked next to an unmolested (at least visually) mid-90's manual Toyota Supra which has so far apparently escaped the attention of the drifters, 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
