Spot of the Day Part 3

Recommended Posts

A couple of interesting spots over the weekend , all seen round Crewe and Nantwich - while I was out in the RS2 on Saturday afternoon I saw a 1920s Rolls Royce tourer, one of those new Morgan 3-wheelers and , most surprising of all , a mint mk4 Escort convertible . Today I was behind a BMW 850 - nice looking car , which almost makes up for it being a BMW.

I m in Braga , Portugal this weekend with the daughters dance school at a big dancing competition.  Anyway , me and my fellow dance dad's are loving spotting immaculate cars that have long since rusted away back home . I.e. mk3 Escorts , mk3 and 4 Fiestas , 2cv , Renault 4 etc.  But the most unexpected was a Lancia Integale owners club run . Must have been at least 20 , all immaculate.  I 'll put on pics when I'm back next week .

Gary .

Hi , back home now . Here’s some pictures of the Lancia Integrales we happened across . They were from the Portuguese Owners Club and were on a trip up to classic Portuguese Rally stages , including Fafe which was near by .

I thought I'd share these with you.

Sort of 'Spotted' when I went to the car park to see them

A bunch of eejits to drive from the island of Ireland's most Easterly point to its most Westerly point. To be done inside about 15 hours, 375 miles. They were to set off at 04:00 but they didn't, it was 04:30.  The thing in the background is the marker to say its the most Easterly point.

Yesterday in Newark. A seemingly mint Triumph Acclaim. (rebadged Honda) The colour, of course, hearing aid beige!

My grandad bought a brand new Acclaim , a HL model . It seemed luxurious at the time what with tinted glass , 5 gears and a tilting steering column !

This Triumph Acclaim HLS was on display at East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Clubs  ( mouthfull ! ) meeting last night at the Humber Bridge. I spoke to  the owner , it was originally bought new by an old lady ( predictively ) from Kennings at Sheffield . It has done just 28,000 miles . It was fully Ziebarted from new and therefore has no rust . Immaculately presented it brought back all kinds of memories of the one my grandad owned .

Also so on display , this immaculate Jenson Interceptor FF , the one with 4 wheel drive . Pictures a bit in the shade , sorry .

Thanks for looking , Gary .

Ah, Ziebart, I had my Mk1 Escort done. Stinky stuff but it worked. And it's obviously worked on that Acclaim too.

Today in South Lincoln, an E reg ('67) Morris 1000 pickup in old English white. Lovely condition too.

Today in Kidderminster's Tesco Petrol station, this lovely 1963 Hillman Minx.

The colour was a lot lighter and slightly lighter blue/greenr than the picture shows, It was in very good condition too, just a little spotting on the wheels.

Comes with historically correct figures 🙂

A nice example of a '60's car. Not a brand I've ever heard of!

My dad had a light blue one, later followed by an upgrade to a two tone grey/red Super Minx!

My dad had a red and white or cream Super Minx. BBW 47B. ( Huh, can't remember my name half the time, how can I remember that)

Damn thing kept cutting out for no reason every few weeks.

I worked as an agricultural engineer and went to a farm in the late seventies and there in a barn looking very forlorn was the very same car

What a coincidence

I can remember the number of our first car, a mini 850, NUS 268M. I’ve forgotten most of the car registration numbers we’ve had since, but I can usually remember who I am!

By the early seventies most of the Minx's and it's derivatives were more filler than metal.

I remember two of us nicked the gearbox out of a scrap one on an old airfield one weekend.

IIRC the engine had a main bearing weakness. Very comfy car though.

A Mk 3 Minx, one of the last. I was offered a dark green Mk 4, then he changed his mind. I have a book on 50s and 60s cars, and the author maintains there was never a Mk4!  I did have a Hunter GT. That was quick. It went after too much sheet metal work went into the underside.
