A fair bit of nice metal over the weekend what with a trip over to Spa (including lots of Datsuns and Peugeot 205s, plus a number of old Ferrari's, Triumphs and quite a few race cars). Quite a few pictures sitting on the camera at the moment, but in the meantime here's a few off the phone...

75 is early for 1500, I had a blue one too, basically just a mkIV with the bigger engine, slightly simpler than the later ones with dogcheck seats.

Dont fold the roof like in the picture or the quarter windows will crack and scratch!

Saw a very smart Mini 1275GT in Nantwich the other day , painted in that dreadful brownish orange .  Looked like it was intended for serious use as it had a roll cage & as it drove away there was the telltale whine of a straight-cut box .

On the way down to North Norfolk yesterday evening and a pale blue  'F'reg (67) MGB was coming the other way. Also a Jowett Javelin in layby with the bonnet up😕 About 15 mins ago we stopped outside where we are staying in Stiffkey and overtaken by a hardtop 'J' red bright red E Type Jaguar.

V reg? How did they manage that I wonder?

Most likely it was exported when new and then re-imported in 1979/80 . Before they altered the registration process in the mid 1980s anything imported was given a registration relating the the year it was imported , not the year it was built .

He must have squeezed it then 'cos I was importing cars pre and post the changes.

I stared at the plate and it was a V. I thought it a bit late (J reg 1971 would be the latest I thought????)

Trevor

'J' was the last, aside from the one built from parts in a dealership window, which was a 'N'. When I was importing, the latest plate I got was a 'T' before the rules changed, so this one must have been in the final batch before the changes.

I'm sure the rules changed later than that - we had a Mk2 RS2000 on a B- prefix plate .

I've slept since then. I think BFG cars had slightly different rules.

And DVLA local offices occasionally mistakenly registered cars with plates newer than they should have had - know this from personal experience working in DVLA vehicles enquiries and answering quieries from sometimes perplexed new registered keepers.....

On the A17 at Sutton Bridge on the way back home, a J reg open top Triumph Spitfire in that weird maroon brown seen on early 70's British Leyland cars

Over the weekend, a couple of clean Rover P6's and a very nice red Austin Healey, unfortunately passed while the dashcam wasn't working. But I did see this (Bond Minicar) on a trailer on the A1 today - not surprised the owner chose to trailer rather than drive it on a 4-lane motorway!

The Aston is the Expensive type.

And another vote for the Jag ...
