What I knew that one more or less is an kit from Israel based on the Matchbox kit.

There are others out there as well but not from well knewn main stream producers.

And there are also some kits that never made it. Has anyone seen the 1/72 Dragon P-51D?

The latest upcoming kit is the "Waltersons P-51D" coming this year. An brand I newer heard of...

I believe Waltersons is either the parent of, or a renaming of, the company called Forces of Valor. Their Spitfire Mk.IX was a serious disappointment; the images on 72 news show the P-51D to have at least what looks like a reasonable cowling cross section, if nothing else.

I agree with you John. The only company's today that I believe can make an new accurate 1/72 P-51D is eduard and Arma Hobby. Can't se any other mainstream company making a new one. Well, maybe Revell...

Well, I think we have couple of  workable D's in 1/72, I'd rather see somebody do a decent B/C or any of the Allison-powered variants, especially the A-36! (Can I get an Amen?)

Agree with you Mike. At least we got three good 1/72 scale P-51D kits. The Tamiya, the Hasegawa and the Airfix kit.

When it comes to 1/72 P-51B and C no kit is accurate. My hopes goes to Arma Hobby concerning an new and accurate P-51B...

AMEN !!! BROTHER ! 🙏🏻

@Andre B & @72modeler this may be of interest to both of you. Seems Tamiya’s been measuring “A’s” around the U.S.

Yes, I read that "rumour". Still lots of question about scale and type. But when did we hear any rumours about Tamiya and what kits they have in mind for the future? Hopefully we soon have confirmation... :)

Blimey! The ancient Revell kit makes this Starfix look like Tamiya quality. I mean, at least it looks like a Mustang. That must have been a first right?

I've never built a Starfix kit. I remember seeing them in cheapy shops back in the 80s. For some strange reason, I have the urge to build one now!

The ancient Revell P-51D could look rather nice with some work. Albeit not side by side with an Tamiya or Airfix concerning shape.. ;)

The Revell kit...

Nicely built, but as a scale model the Starfix is vastly better

As Starfix is an Matchbox copy and not as old as the Revell kit it is not an big surprise. Rivets or trenches, both are old kits.

But when the Revell kit was new it was an "amazing" kit. It had an interior that neither Airfix, Matchbox (Starfix), Heller or Lindberg had. The old Hasegawa kit changed this.

But these days old kit can't be compared about quality and/or shape with the latest Airfix, Hasegawa and Tamiya offerings.

It's just nostalgia  and a bit of interesting history concerning development of kits over fifthy years...

Another picture of the Linberg kit.

This time of the box (with no "Boeing logo's) with instructions. I like the bottomtext on the box...

"Cut on dotted line and fold back to use package as tray for parts while assembling" ! ;)
