Special Hobby 1/72 Curtiss Kittyhawk of the western desert air force

Painted with Vallejo acrylics applied with hairy sticks.

My first Special Hobby kit and it's rather nice (hopefully I've done it justice).

The Warthog is done! Not a bad kit but it has its let downs. The seat is to tall, engine nacelles, the front lower fuselage to name a few, all fixable. The Master barrel set was overly complicated for this scale but the Italeri moulded barrel was woeful. The Hi Decal sheet was a good buy but some of the carrier film is a bit larger than need. Shame the colour scheme was never put into service, it is an eye catching one especially with the warthog teeth in steed of the usual shark mouth seen on A10's.

My effort for this GB, a Revell D. H. Vampire of  112 squadron,  RAF Bruggen, Germany, 1953 The Revell repop of the old Heller kit, it wasn't too bad to build, there were short cuts taken with finish due to the time constraints I put myself under starting late, however, for the 1st kit I've built in over 18 months, I'm not unhappy with it. I'll try not to stray too far from the stables even if I don't spend that much time in the saddle. :)

WIP here.

Some photos, not very good, taken in a hurry under not very good light, I may put some more up in a RFI when I can take some photos with better lighting.

This is my entry for this GB, which is an RAF Tornado GR1 that operated in Op Granby in 1991 from Muharraq air base, but had a Sharkmouth that was different from the usual one. One side eve got painted out for some reason or other.

The build thread is here:-

Kit, Eduard 1/72 Spitfire VIII, built to represent A58-602 RG-V of WCdr Robert ”Bobby” Gibbs, a veteran of the North African campaign, as of April 1945 at Morotai, RAAF No 80 Wing. Gibbs was one of the pilots taking part in the Morotai ”mutiny”, protesting against being sidestepped and designated to meaningless tasks far from the real fighting (or at least misused).

And yes, the ace of spades should be upside down - Gibbs was apparently a bit of a joker 😛
