perdu
When I was making inroads into my stash I had a few large helicopter models to make so I made the thread 'over there' about it This included the Italeri Merlin HM1 and the Airfix CH-53 and I have taken the opportunity to pop out some other helicopters during the build Anyway I cannot remember ever putting an RFI for the CH-53 which I finished as a US Marines 'copter of HMH-262 The Ugly Angels in the Middle East This machine used engine jet pipe blanks with images of the delightful Betty Boop which gave me much amusement replicating inside a tiny-ish hole I scratch built the countermeasures gear and every one of the airframe markings was home printed Finished in a mix of Tamiya Acrylics here she be: Cold light of day images, very chilly for a May morning... But 'nuff of pollytics And on The large fuel tanks were aftermarket because the Airfix kit ones were for skinnier early tanks Betty is visible on the jet pipe blanks here Rotor blade marks were no fun at all but add nicely to the overall look Not great pictures but typical of my poor 'tography abilities sorry I hope you like this Thanks for looking
Alan P
Decent build and a good way to clear the stash! I can understand your lukewarm fascination with helicopters, I have one myself 😄
perdu
Oh dear Alan, you misunderstand me I love helicopters, always have but the Merlin, CH-53 and a couple of others in my stash were impulse buys that were never on my 'Build Radar' I found once the builds were underway that I liked these beasties better as the research went on and I did learn far more after than I knew at the beginning Still, I do have fixed wing builds in the pipeline After some more helicopters that are on my 'Radar' Thanks for looking

John
Lovely job. The big Airfix helos are great kits and it's a shame their availability has been so patchy over the years. The last kit issued by the original Airfix Industries, IIRC? John

Ad-4N
What is that shade of FS gray? Great job!
perdu
I am still not sure what FS Gray it is I saw the pictures online of the Ugly Angels flightline and this was a mixture of Tamiya acrylics to get as close as I could visually to the colour in the pictures Mostly a result of adding white to taste to JA gray to get this almost glowing colour Even after finishing the model I cant quite recognise the colour from the Technical Orders listings In the end I went where I liked the look... 👍
