Italian Typhoon - more shades of grey, anyone?

Hi everybody;

 

here's my new project, the 1/72 Revell Eurofighter Typhoon

 

This type entered into Italian Air Force service (AMI, Aeronautica Militare Italiana) in 2004, and it's currently deployed in three different bases: Grosseto (4° Stormo), Gioia del Colle (36° Stormo) and Trapani Birgi (37° Stormo). The kit supplied decals allow to build six different versions: two Germans, one Austrian, one British, one Spanish and one Italian, which is the one I'm doing.

 

Typical Revell instruction sheet, with basically useless color table - it only refers to Revell paints

 

The airframe I'm going to reproduce

 

and the sprues (there's many of them )

 

 

 

 

The clear parts: the windshield shows some bubbles

 

While the canopy has an annoying moulding seam going all along mid-line

 

I'm planning to use the AM cockpit set from PAVLA

 

 

More later, now I need to take care of my lawn.

Oh yes, definitely one to watch.

I wish you well with the air data sensors that go under the nose!

Cherish that 2007 boxing of the kit; later issues only offer one set of markings, and not necessarily the set that you might want.

Was anyone bringing pickled mussels?

 

I fancy a jar of mussels and I will be sitting near the bar, don't want to have to totter to far for refillS

 

(Not mussels refills, one jar of them a month does me fine ta)

I did the same one a couple years ago and found it mostly an enjoyable build. Will you fix the panels around the cockpit? Revell designed it as a twinseater, so it's not quite accurate for a single seater.

 

Here's how mine turned out. Incidently, it's the same one as the one that crashed in the sea during a display a couple years ago.

You are indeed right, Keith: you can do 4 different British Tiffies with the supplied decals

Excellent result, Pete  From the MM (Matricola Militare, the aircraft serial number) it appears it's indeed the same aircraft. What is odd is that the instructions actually show a different MM from the decal sheet, that is M.M. 7235. If you look that up, pictures show a different airframe number, that is 4-13 (as opposed to the 4-12 related to M.M. 7278)

Hmm, I remember the airbrake being a bit of a pain to make it fit in the closed position. And the windscreen doesn't quite fit either. Otherwise it really isn't too bad.

 

Also, pickled mussels? Really? That's something people eat?
