As a result of the close-down of the UK by the British Government last night, we have made all the Buy/Sell areas read-only until we open back up again, so please have a look at the announcement linked here.

Lazy Loading

Recommended Posts

With this latest version of the forum software, we've introduced a new feature called Lazy Loading.  It sounds odd and like it might be a waste of someone's time, but it's a handy tool that accomplishes a few good things for the site and the members.

When you click on a link to a forum thread the server provides you with all the graphics and text for that page, only now it only provides you with the part of the page you can see initially plus a bit more as a buffer for if/when you scroll down.  When you scroll down, it then "lazy loads" the next pictures etc. so that you're not waiting around for the page to load and format itself.  It also doesn't gobble up your data (if you're on a metered connection) for pictures you might not even look at.  The result is that your page loads quicker, possibly uses up less of your data, and also results in less load on the server from the times when you don't pull a whole page down when you get bored, had clicked accidentally, or mistook the title for something else.  What you might see occasionally is a number of horizontal lines or a grey block when you scroll quickly down a page - try it! Those lines will quickly turn into pictures however, so don't freak out :)

Now you've read about it, you can relax next time you see those little lines briefly when you scroll at warp speed.  personally, I'd have called it Smart Loading (c) ^_^
