Seat Belts for Shavrov SH-2???

Hi Peeps,

Some of you my be aware that I have just started a WiP on this aircraft and it has got me thinking. I know zero about the SH-2 and was wondering what advice you interested people can give to a few question.

Q1. The kit and what images their are on web show nothing of a floor, I can't believe that crew would be able to stand on the hull internals. Would their have been a deck or foot boards?

Q2. Belts. Being over 1930's vintage and Russian, would they be fitted with a harness or just lap belts?

Q3. Pilot. I'm leaning towards doing an ambulance and not knowing what service this would belong to, I don't know what the pilot would be wearing (if I can get one)? Would he military, civil?

Q4. I have only seen 1 or 2 pics of the ambulance and was wondering whether they would be fitted with a venturi and/or a wind pump?

TIA

Stuart

Hi,

Last year I constructed Sh02 from A-model kit. There is relatively a lot of material in net. Fore example here:

https://aerofred.com/search.php?search_keywords=*Shavrov Sh-2*

I hope it will help  bit. However - not too much about seatbelts...

Thanks again J-W, especially for the wind pump/ dynamo that's attached to my subject of 'K8'.

As for the cockpit view with seats/ belts, this must be the replica as it's fitted with 'modern' seat belt mounts, seats are of modern construction. I'm leaning towards lap belts being fitted. Moa has posted some links on my SH-2 WiP thread that could prove useful.

1. Probably footboards given practice in other seaplanes. 2. Lap belts, given contemporary Russian practice. 3. The ambulance service was quasi-military, a bit like my Shavrov below. 4. can't help you there.

You may find these links helpful but I think most of it has been covered above.

The PE set is not worth having for  the cockpit gear  as it is invisible. The other parts look sort of useful but easily made yourself.

Cheers @Ed Russell. On my WiP thread

(that I haven't really started), others have posted links that have proved very useful, Q4 was answered with a wind pump but no venturi.

Useful or not, I've already ordered the PE set via my LMS and I've also acquired the engine.

  • Courageous changed the title to Seat Belts for Shavrov SH-2???

With help from @Moa and my own searches, we find no images of belts fitted to the SH-2. That's not to say that they weren't fitted, just can't can't find evidence to support either. Were contemporary aircraft fitted with belts? Maybe @Pin can help?

Thanks for the references @Pin I came across your supplied link earlier and although they are useful images, I am still left wondering. One of the images of the airframe has an aerial fitted which is obviously a later addition and this could be the same for the belts. As I am wanting to build the ambulance version K8, I'd like to get this clarified if possible.

That is really hard to tell, Stuart.

There were about 1000 Sh-2 built, being a very basic construction there were many on field additions, and the aerial you are mentioning might be unique for a particular aircraft.
