Reini78 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 #12/2019 After the Bird Dog, now another contribution for our homeland collection by my dad. Pilot Replicas kit built oob, MRP White Alu/Dark Alu mix as base colour, MRP White Alu for different shaded panels to have some distortion of the plain metal surface. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235045982-bundesheer148-saab-j29f-tunnan-austrian-airforce/ In 1961 Austria bought 30 used Tunnans from Sweden which stayed in service until 1972 when they were succeeded by Saab 105. Some served also as recce birds. The aircrafts were used by the one and only Jagdbombergeschwader, split into two Staffeln in Styria and Upper-Austria. Roman Schilhart Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Looking superb - both of them! Which one you consider the better kit? 2
flashlight Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Very nice! The natural metal finish looks great! Have a nice day! Nick 1
Baldy Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 (edited) Beautiful Tunnan. Possibly the best I have seen. Lovely NM finish and weathering. I am not an expert but the Pilot Replicas kit looks more convincing in shape particularly around the nose? Cheers Malcolm Edited May 1, 2019 by Baldy spelling 1

Definitely the PR kit, quality, fit, detail and accuracy are way better than with the AZ kit. 4 hours ago, Baldy said: Beautiful Tunnan. Possibly the best I have seen. Yes, the AZ kit´s nose shape is wrong. Back then my dad used a correction resin nose from Maestro Models but still the shape looked off.
Greg Law Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 That really is a fantastic finish. The metal work really stands out. I'm having real trouble with it doing my Me 262s. I'm try to use Vallejo paint for it And ended up with a real mess. I'm sanding back now ready for another try. 1
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Very nicely done “Flying Barrel”, i like the pair together. 1

When Vallejo released the metal color line, my dad liked them and did some models with them. But they are not that easy to handle and the surface doesn't turn out that nice. He doesn't use them anymore. Nowadays he prefers the metal tones from Mr Paint. They are very thin and have fine pigments, similar to Alclad paints. The end result looks very smooth as you can see here. At the moment my dad builds a Mexican P-47and has used MRP Aluminium too, you can find it in the WIP forum (Aztec Warrior). Besides that he recently started a Mexican Vampire on which he'll use MRP paints again. 1 1

stevehnz Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 A simple scheme with not so simple execution, the metal finish is very convincing. Once more, a triumph of modelling from your Dad, Reinhard. Steve. 1
