Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle.

Recommended Posts

My next "studio scale " project is possibly my all time favourite vehicle from a Gerry Anderson series is the SPV from Captain Scarlet & the Mysterons.

The kit is from Studio 2 Models and the main body is in resin backed with fibre glass.

The rest of the parts, including the wheels, are cast in resin.

The SPV is 55cm long.

This is the raw body.

I quickly cut out one of the doors, a must do as the sliding door and rear facing seats are a must build.

I also opened up the windows, and head lights.

The body had the panel lines engraved.

I also added the dorsal fairing, and built the intake grills.

Thanks for looking :)

Hi Angelo!

Ah, another favorite of mine, I did'nt realise Studio 2 did one, got one of His Stingrays in the loft to do, so will be interested to see how this one goes together.

Keep Sticking!

Cheers,  Pete

(PS Thinking of changing My name to Derek Meddings in honour of the great man Himself!)

This is cool - I had the diecast of this as a kid, and loved the pop-out missile, the flick-down tracks and of course the flip out Captain Scarlet figure, although he was a bit legless by the time I'd had him for a while.

  • 2 weeks later...

Quick update.

I have been working on the interior.

Looking through old annuals, The Haynes manual, internet and watching as many episodes that feature the SPV I have pieced together what the interior is like,

and this is my interpretation:

More to come!

You'll have to make a mechanism to fling that door open so fast that the Cap'n gets hurled out of his seat and under the couch every time.  The glue gave up on my diecast's figure, and that used to happen a lot.  It might go at least some way to explain his missing legs, thinking about it.  For the nostalgia, you must make it happen :hypnotised:

Rear panel details.

resin copies of most of the original greeblies are included with the kit.

The track is provided as straight runs, but are easily made pliable with a dunk in hot water.

The grey tubing is made from sprue, no need to bend as I used corners.

Other parts are from plastic card, brass tubing, and some bits from the spares box.

I was toying with the idea of making the tracks hinge down, as per the Dinky version, but in the end I just fixed them in place.

Most of the body work is done.

Starting to work on the wheels and chassis.

Some adjustments needs to the sit of the body on the chassis:

Slight issue which I had never realised until I started this build, regarding tyre clearance and the cabin floor :)

Painting begins!

First of all its Halford's filler/primer:

Next it's lots of rubbing down!

As it's such a lovely, bright, sunny, & warm day, a quick application of Zircon blue was in order:

All the best :)

maybe time for a look to the entrance of the bulge on top, in front of the fin, that one doesn't look smooth

That's because it has masking tape on it as it had been painted white :)
