Mil Mi-24V Hind E

Recommended Posts

Hi all - here are a few pics from my current build. I am going 'full detail' on the excellent 1/72 Hind E kit from Zvezda. I have interior PE from North Star Models, exterior PE from Ace Models, resin wheels from Armory, the JakB-12.7 machine gun and Duas probe from Master, and the Hind stencil decals from Linden Hill. I'll be doing the kit decals option from Mahlwinkel, GDR in 1993 as I like the look of the 'classic' Hind clover-leaf camo. I'll be pushing my scratchbuilding skills to the limit as I have opened up the hydraulics block (see pics) and also aim to scratchbuild the APU and air conditioning piping below the pilots cockpit on the port side. All the kit compartment options will be built 'open' including the engine bays, main gearbox and troop cabin. I have 2 excellent books on the Hind (the 'Yellow Series' book by Jakob Fojtik and the HT Model book) to help me. Photos show progress so far, I'm aiming to detail up as many parts as possible before painting. Hope you like.

Thanks Nikolay....it's tricky but i'm taking it slowly!

I have an ACE etch for the Hind A and Microdesign etch for other Hinds - this time I dealing with the latter and having fun. Even if it’s a very small-sized, these parts come together easily.

Cheers!:cat:

Sounds good, do you have any pictures?

Hi Nikolay. No, not much i'm afraid. I'm busy re-training and that takes up most of my time (along with looking after my son). I will try to get some pics of what I have done - i'm eager to get some paint on it!

I got a little time to do some modelling...perhaps not the most interesting update but I did manage to paint the IP! I have some time now so aim to get a significant painting session in.

Hi all - this thread has been inactive for a while but I have not been! See some pics below - the main internal 'superstructure' of the Hind has come together, and the engines are in. All the wiring around the rotor hub and from the hydraulics block was pretty fiddly but actually not as bad as I expected! Hope you like.

Hi everyone. I eventually managed to get the fuselage halves together with some plasticard employed to fill the gaps...by far the least enjoyable and stressful part of the build! It's getting there now, I have assembled the wings and will start the stores soon. Hope you like the pics.

Hi all,

Hope you are all well and happy in these unsettling times. I have had some free evenings to work on the Hind and it is slowly getting there....I have painted up the wheels (first time using wheel masks and I am very impressed!) and I have fitted the canopies. The rear pilot's canopy sits right up under the engine intakes, and this left a gap which needed filling with plastic strip. This was a bit annoying as it leaves a sort of 'double height' ledge above the port pilot console but I don't think it detracts much from the cockpit overall. I have primed most things in black and tried the 'marbling' coat on the stub wings for the first time to give a bit of tonal variety to the top paint coats. The open bay below the pilots canopy is the air conditioning unit, I thought it looked cool in reference photos so I scratchbuilt it! This is just layer one of the detail which will be painted and weathered before I add the tangle of air conditioning piping which will be painted in-situ (not quite sure how I will manage this yet...🤔). Another minor annoyance was the thickness of the Ace models external detail PE, nice details but a bit over-thick, hence the attempts to reduce the difference with white filler! There are also some more detail pics of the other opened panels. Up, next, main paintwork. Hope you like the pics (sorry they are not great, I need a new camera/phone).
