1/72 Academy F-8E Crusader

Recommended Posts

Completed this about a week ago, straight OOB build. Very nice kit with great fit and overall detail; only downsides are that the slats (and to some extent the slats) are not posable to account for the raised wing, and the instructions for the fuselage pylons are less than helpful (took me multiple tries to work it out). I decided to keep the weathering subtle to allow for more to be added later on if I so wish.

Hello Min,

Great job, especially on this rather small scale.

Besides that, "MARINES"always good.

Regards, Orion.

Brilliant work!

Please tell me the yellow outlines on the canopy are decals (??).

Even if they are, your work is superb.

Decals indeed! The kit provides these as standalone strips, or as a whole decal for the front canopy windscreen (i.e. including the black part to cover the whole part).

I went for the strips after masking and painting the canopy. Was a rather fiddly affair but got there in the end.

Thank you all for the kind words and 'likes'.

Min.

Smashing build. The details and the surfaces of the kit look great as well.

Kit decals ?

Thank you, and yes, kit decals straight out of the box. I liked the markings and a mud mover Marines bird was what I wanted - win :like:

Sounds good. The decals in Academy kits were often a weak Point in the past.

These were too. The big USAF insignia on the port fuselage cracked where I worked it to conform around the IFR port bulge - you can see it clearly in the very first photo. Fortunately the rest of the decals went over relatively flat surfaces.

The new Academy kits, however, have Cartograf decals :like:

Yowzah! Beautiful model! Glad to see you didn't get carried away with the panel lines and weathering- looks very realistic in my opinion. I love you choice of ordnance, too! 4.0 job, as they say!
