1/72 Airfix Beaufighter TF.X

Recommended Posts

A light coat of Extra Dark Sea Grey on the upper surfaces, to be followed by further coats and subsequently lightened and faded as I go. That's the plan anyway.

I didn't actually mean to go this far with the underneath, hence nothing is masked. I had some problems with my airbrush and did a little test with some Sky, intending to maybe paint a wing. The airbrush coughed, spluttered, spat and sprung into life so I quickly topped the cup up and carried on while the going was good.

It shouldn't take long to tidy up.

But I painted it a bit differently:

A very good kit, that I actually managed to finish 😎

So it was you that picked up that kit I planned to get. Looking Good!

Cheers / André

I seem to have missed the start to this & at the rate you're progressing, darn nearly the finish too. ;) Its looking jolly good mate, I take it the sea state has not been too boisterous. :)

Steve.

Thanks Steve. The weather has been a bit fresh but nothing too severe. Today looks like it could be busy work wise so my planned work on the collector rings and exhaust will have to wait till this evening.

Further progress and a couple of minor disasters to contend with. Breaking the tail wheel off was one of those "I knew that would happen" but still let it moments and most of the canopy frame paintwork came off along with the masks. They are currently being handpainted.

Setbacks aside, she's looking very nice.

Thanks very much Stuart.

My ambition is to one day build a kit without any setbacks but I'm not even sure that's possible. 😄

Thanks very much CC.

At sea builds usually slow down when it's time to start adding the small fiddly bits towards the end..... same as ashore really but with added difficulties. 😄

It does surprise me that you get as much done as you do, can't be easy trying to do things when you're bobbing around the place. (I didn't like bobbing around, that's why I volunteered for subs...calmer)

It certainly puts extra pressure on the knees looking for stuff. 😆

Nicely done there Roger!

The muted stripes on the fuselage are great.

Too bad with the tail wheel, though. It doesn't take much too knock off stuff, and the carpet monster is always hungry...

Thanks Christer. A careful spraying of light grey toned down the black and white nicely and the tail wheel is easily fixed.

Roger, do you have carpet of just steel decks to walk on? It's been a long time since I was last on a ship of any size.

So you got aquatic or amphibious carpet creatures?

Chris

I'm not exactly sure Chris, they're so stealthy they creep in covertly, steel plastic and creep back out without being  spotted. 😮
