Stirling Mk.III from Italeri ?

Hi gang,

I am thinking to make Stirling Mk.III from DK Decals beautiful sheet for 100 Group.

What steps are necessary to make to have Mk.III from Italeri´s Mk.I ?

I have understood that new top turet is needed (can be stolen from Hasegawa´s Lancasters as in some versions it is not needed) or to make that one without.

Not to drill oil collers in wings, less windows in fuselage, longer exhausts.

I would not bother with other Hercules subtype.

Anything else I have fotgotten ? Are there any good drawings ?

Thanks.

The mk I kit does not include the oil coolers below and later, larger air intake above each engine (these are included in the IV kit).  However, the IV kit doesn't include bombs for the bomb bay, nor the necessary clear parts for the front turret which is more crucial. With both kits (and indeed an alternative top turret) a mk III would be possible.

suggests a MkIV kit and this https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/SQS9198 may be sufficient if you don't want to have bomb doors open. Or if you are into RAF bombers then this https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/FNCV1772 might be worth considering.

I obviously can't comment on the match between the clear parts intended for the Airfix kit and the Italeri plastic but how different can they be?

one thing I forgot: the mk IV fuselage front section is molded slightly different than the mk 1 - it doesn't have the front turret "housing".

This is a photo of the Italeri mk 1 fuselage next to the old Airfix kit:

and there's a close up of the IV front fuselage here: http://www.hyperscale.com/2015/reviews/kits/italeri1350reviewbg_1.htm

I can't comment on the Italeri Stirling either, but Falcon replacement canopies for other types differ for different kits of the same type.  Ideally this wouldn't be needed, but in practice they have been and I've no confidence that it won't be true nowadays.  There are simply too many steps between the original and the model in your hands.
