Hmmm... I may have to raise my hand for this one.  🙋‍♂️

During my time in the USAF (1969-1973), I was stationed at MacDill AFB as a member of the 1st Combat Support Group providing support for the 1st TFW 45th TFS who, at that time, were providing replacement training for F-4 pilots headed to SEA.  During that time, I'd see a constant stream of F-4's coming and going as they sortied in and out of MacDill for training.   Usually at the Avon Park gunnery range.

So, in a fit of blatant nostalgia, I'm probably going to jump in with an F-4E of the 45 TFS just for old times sake.  :coolio:

Air America sounds like it's ok for the build, that'll be Craig's baby to look after.......Air America the movie is banned.....  Mel Gibson!!

What happened to you, my faithful side kick??? I had to give the job of Co-host to my new star import @modelling minion, I manage him now! :fight: Though if things get too out of control I may have to sub you in as well.

Happy to look after Air America, and God knows they needed some looking after! I may even join in with something from the secret war in Laos as ever since reading "The Ravens", which I cannot recommend highly enough, and I have a Roden 1/48 T-28 which would fit the bill nicely, i may even try to find a suitable "Ho Chi Bear" to put in the back seat.

Ooh the threat of physical violence! If I had known that I would have volunteered sooner ;) . I stand prepared to be "managed",

Revell 1/72 AH-1G. Not sure how good it is but it was on sale.

I believe it's the Special Hobby kit re-boxed so should be a good build.

While there's a couple F-4 Phantoms and a Cessna O-1 Bird-dog in the stash that would do the job for this one I'm thinking to search out a something from the North side such as a MiG-17 or -21, An-2 or, if I can find out how it looked, the T-28 :hmmm:

All great choices Col and the North Vietnamese T-28 would certainly be a bit different.

Now if you could build one of the AN-2's that attacked the USAF radar site in Laos and was hot down by the Air America UH-1D then we would have a very interesting dogfight double on our hands.

Always great to see a build that has a personal connection to the builder, and ever gets tired of seeing Phantom's? Certainly not me!

You'll have to excuse me but work is getting in the way :( What little spare hobby time I've had lately is getting sucked up trying to (unsuccessfully) juggle mod'ing three GBs and as a result I've not strayed further into the forum far less towards my own workbench. I think an enforced but unwilling break from the GBs is required for me.

Hmmm Mod'ing does seem to eat up a lot of time, and here's me wanting to take a break from it and have 3 proposals up for next year already!! :wall:

welcome to the list, and who really doesn't like a Phantom, there's a lot of love for these amazing aircraft.

I can easily justify adding a MiG-17 or -21 into the stash for this very purpose. Hah! I could easily justify adding any MiG to the stash

Anyone know what the An-2 looked like? Got an Italeri kit in the stash... :hmmm:

It is addictive but also time-consuming. While it feels good to be putting something back into the hobby it can also be frustrating when no time is left to participate. I've not started anything for the Trainers or Specialists GB yet and both are well on :(

I know the feeling! Hosting does eat up a lot of modelling time....same goes for trying to come up with interesting ideas for GB's! But it is great when an idea turns into a large and popular GB/STGB!

just for those that might be interested, or for lovers of pure "resin porn"!!!!!

This is the #1 build for me if this one goes ahead!

IMG_2794-M.jpg

this is just the conversion kit, I still need to buy the donor model.

IMG_2792-M.jpg

She's HUGE!!! Hollow cast one piece fuselage, she's slightly warped, a bit hard not to be considering the size of the case. The fuselage walls are almost the thickness of a plastic model. This is resin casting/production taken to 11!

IMG_2789-M.jpg

Two different sets of seat, the original factory and later "Yankee" ejection seats

Lots of awesome other bits

IMG_2790-M.jpg

Plus case resin canopy

She'll either be a camouflaged one or the aircraft flown by MoH winner Major Bernard "Bernie" Fisher. An incredible story to read about for those who don't know it. He also was awarded the Silver Star that same day as well!

I’m in. Had a great day looking round the Vietnamese Air Force museum and military history museum in Hanoi a few years ago, l’ll have to revisit my photos for inspiration. I have a MiG-21 that would fit the bill, perhaps a MiG-17 or 19 might sneak into the stash as well! Also have an Italeri C-119 (operated by the French in Vietnam) and I have a feeling the Aeroplast PZL M28 includes Vietnamese markings.

Are Vietnamese civvies allowed? I’ve had my eye on some decals for a VietJet A321 and have been wanting to build a Vietnamese Il-14 for a while.

Excellent idea with the A-1E Rich, to my mind it's the best looking of the Skyraider series and I can't think of a more fitting build than Bernie Fisher's aircraft.

We really are picking up the required numbers quickly, seems like a very popular choice, and there are some very interesting subjects being put forward.

I guess you do not "need" me to sign up here!

The Vietnam war is definitely a bit out of my knowledge base....

A MiG-21?  Maybe.... or a MiG-17?

Or a Thud?.....

Oh yes....

I really didn't know the story that well but after reading the full story, just an incredible piece of bravery and skill. As much as I'd like to build a camouflaged version, his aircraft probably going to be the one I build. There's always extra sprue available on evilBay so I may get them to build a second Spad.

If anyone is interested in this story and some of the other amazing feats carried out in Skyraiders then I'd highly recommend this book;

I'm quite surprised at the interest in this GB, I though it would be interesting, but they way it has taken off.... Fingers crossed it makes it into the calendar next year.

I have a familial connection to the war. Im named after my uncle KIA Oct.11,1967 Bong Son Republic of South Vietnam. I have a better history of my uncle and his unit in my M48 Patton build, if you're curious I've posted a link, the info is in post #9. It has connections to the Royal Army as well as Malaysia.

Getting out of your knowledge base is all the more reason to take part.  I love learning about new things, or even just deeper knowledge on areas I may only have a passing knowledge base of (going through this now on a DAK build).

Just two ore recruits needed now!

Bauxite and Galena?  Sorry, couldn't help myself...   ...one of the side effects of studying materials science and geology, it makes you a smart bottom!

In a break from my studies I've been going through my Model Art decals and comparing them to the stash, currently I'm torn between an Aeronavale Curtiss Helldiver or an Armee de l'Air Grumman Hellcat (yes you read that right).  I don't know why I bother thinking about these things at this stage - I'm bound to change my mind by the time the GB starts!
