Time to dust down all the Vietnam movies, there’s a few! Top 3? Apocalypse Now purely for the chopper scene we all know, did DI DI DI do did did did DI do..Full Metal Jacket and... can’t pick one. If anyone hasn’t yet seen the American made 10 part documentary that was released last year, its fantastic! The Vietnam war, 18 hours of fact Ken Burns and Lynn Novak, a must see.

Ken Burns has done some brilliant documentaries over the years.  I'll have to track that one down.  Thanks for the heads up.

The Vietnam II GB was in 2015 if I recall correctly. Put me down for Vietnam III please.

yeah, for some reason I didn't enter the GB.....not sure why as it's a subject that does interest me.

It's sort of the reason why i've put it up again, it was a popular GB, and a really interesting one as well.

Hello Rich

Id be interested in this one. Please put me on the list.

My current thinking is a Thunderchief or a beaten up French Spitfire with a sharks mouth.

Thanks

James

no worries, both are great choices, though I know there'll be a lots saying to build the Spitfire!!

Just a quick question: Would the Fairchild Au23A Peacemaker be eligible for this theme?

You've got me on this one.....a quick look at Wiki is sort of yes & no......unless someone has a definitive answer then I'd say she's ok.

Well that's what I've thought too... it was there pure as an evaluation, and was more grounded then active, on the box it says Vietnam service, but markings from the decals only say Thailand and 4400 special operations squadron 1972 (which was the year they returned home: On June 30, 1972, the 4400th SOS ferried the AU-23As to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, for storage.) thinking it is a bit much on the edge with regards to other subjects...

Scanning through my Scalemates inventory, and it looks like I've also got an AH-1G & OV-1B (new acquisition from a friend) that come boxed w/ markings from Vietnam.  More options to tickle my fancy when the time comes.  I had actually forgotten about the Cobra.  😁

Don't forget Platoon, Hamburger Hill, and We Were Soldiers. Yes the last one is a Mel Gibson film. Though it is actually quite well made, about a pivotal moment in the war.

What about Air America operations didn't they operate the Peacemaker ? While I'm at it does this build cover Air America operations as well ?

Yes I really liked We Were Soldiers even though it's a Mel Gibson film, totally agree that Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket make the grade.

I believe that Air America did indeed use the Peacemaker.

In my opinion Air America would certainly qualify for the GB as a lot of their operations were in direct support of the military even if not the US military, and lets not forget one of their UH-1's did shoot down a North Vietnamese AN-2.

I think you need a Pilatus PC-6 Turbo-Porter

http://www.roden.eu/HTML/440.htm

The PC-6 tested by the swedish army was later sold to Air America

If the timing is right it’s the perfect excuse to build my first phantom. 😎

Always a popular choice, even better if it's your first one!

While there's a couple F-4 Phantoms and a Cessna O-1 Bird-dog in the stash that would do the job for this one I'm thinking to search out a something from the North side such as a MiG-17 or -21, An-2 or, if I can find out how it looked, the T-28 :hmmm:

gezzz didn't this thread light up after I went to bed.....

Ok anything with Mel Gibson is crap, sorry......same goes with that other idiot Russel Crow......ok got that out of my system! :D

Welcome to the list everyone that just popped in, @SAU, not sure if you're in for the build or just providing info, just let me know if you want to go on the list.

Air America sounds like it's ok for the build, that'll be Craig's baby to look after.......Air America the movie is banned.....  Mel Gibson!!

What happened to you, my faithful side kick??? I had to give the job of Co-host to my new star import @modelling minion, I manage him now! :fight: Though if things get too out of control I may have to sub you in as well.

Something from the north side would be good as I think this my turn out to be a Phantom fest!

I'm thinking of a JOA-1A, Roden has a nice one in 1/48th and there's some nice AM stuff around for it as well!

Now I sooo have to fine a place that sells good coffee, am in Perth, slowly heading back to Sydney!

Ah Vietnam II, I contributed an FAC Cessna O2, and an F-8J Crusader with home-based drooped slats.

For this I know I have an Academy F-4J Phantom Showtime 100.

All the other A6, A7, RA5C, A3 - well I'll have to check, but there is a TF9J Cougar that says Vietnam - I'm in.

gee you just snuck in as well, welcome to the list, some great choices, the Cougar would be nice, same with the Skywarrior

The Ken Burns documentaries are sublime, very much like World at War for the interviews and footage.

Put me down for the build as well please, I may be around depending on the job but I have one or 3 phantoms, crusaders and skyraiders!

You'll have to excuse me but work is getting in the way :( What little spare hobby time I've had lately is getting sucked up trying to (unsuccessfully) juggle mod'ing three GBs and as a result I've not strayed further into the forum far less towards my own workbench. I think an enforced but unwilling break from the GBs is required for me.
